A high index of suspicion for this potentially fatal complication is warranted to enable prompt diagnosis and treatment. Serositis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of a patient presenting with chest pain, fever or fatigue following recent permanent pacemaker implantation, particularly if there are elevated inflammatory markers.
