Background/aim: Sorafenib is standard treatment for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Hand-foot skin reaction (HFSR) is a notorious side-effect of this therapy. This study evaluated prophylactic benefits of an oral nutritional supplement (ONS) on sorafenib-associated HFSR in advanced HCC.
Patients And Methods: This was a prospective, single-center, open-label trial arm using combined ONS and sorafenib in patients with unresectable HCC from August 2014 to February 2018. Control patients received sorafenib without ONS from 2011 to 2014. From September 2014, prophylactic ONS containing β-hydroxy-β-methylbutyrate (HMB), L-arginine, and L-glutamine was given. Sorafenib dosage was 400 mg/day for both groups.
Results: Each group comprised 22 men and three women. Age, sex, Child-Pugh score, and clinical stage excluding IV-B did not significantly differ between the groups. HFSR occurred after 2 weeks: 15/25 patients in the control group (60%; HFSR grade 1: 6, grade 2: 7, grade 3: 2) vs. 8/25 in the ONS group (32%; HFSR grade 1: 4, grade 2: 4, grade 3: 0; p=0.047, Pearson's Chi-square test).
Conclusion: Prophylactic HMB, L-arginine and L-glutamine supplementation effectively prevented sorafenib-associated HFSR in patients with advanced HCC.

Background: Immune cells within tumor tissues play important roles in remodeling the tumor microenvironment, thus affecting tumor progression and the therapeutic response. The current study was designed to identify key markers of plasma cells and explore their role in high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC).
Methods: We utilized single-cell sequencing data from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database to identify key immune cell types within HGSOC tissues and to extract related markers via the Seurat package.

Objective: The clinical benefits of neoadjuvant bevacizumab plus chemotherapy in locally advanced gastric cancer patients are controversial. This study intended to evaluate the efficacy and safety of neoadjuvant bevacizumab plus chemotherapy in these patients.
Methods: In this retrospective study, 71 locally advanced gastric cancer patients receiving neoadjuvant bevacizumab plus chemotherapy or neoadjuvant chemotherapy alone were divided into bevacizumab plus chemo group (N = 23) and chemo group (N = 48).

Background: In severely injured trauma patients, hypofibrinoginaemia is associated with increased mortality. There is no evidence-based consensus for what constitutes optimal fibrinogen therapy, treatment dose or timing of administration. The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the effects of early fibrinogen replacement, either cryoprecipitate or fibrinogen concentrate (FgC) on mortality, transfusion requirements and deep venous thrombosis (DVT).

Background: It is crucial to identify post-operative patients with HPV infection who are at high risk for residual/recurrent disease. This study aimed to evaluate the association between HPV integration and clinical outcomes in HPV-positive women after cervical conization, as well as to identify HPV integration breakpoints.
Methods: This retrospective study analyzed data of 791 women who underwent cervical conization for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grades 2-3 (CIN2-3) between September 2019 and September 2023, sourced from the Fujian and Hubei cervical lesion screening cohorts.

Background: Since the beginning of the 21st century, China's economy has experienced rapid growth, resulting in a steady improvement in its citizens' living standards. However, alongside the emergence of modern civilization-related health issues, the overall physical fitness of the population has been declining. In the final year of 2019, a global COVID-19 pandemic emerged and persisted for three years, causing a significant diminution in human physical well-being.
