Here we present 2shRNA, a shRNA-based nanobinder, which can simultaneously attack two therapeutic targets involved in drug resistance pathways and can additionally bind accessory molecules such as cell targeting peptides or fluorophores. We create 2shRNAs designed to specifically kill HER2+ breast cancer cells in the absence of a transfecting agent.

Multifunctional, nanostructured membranes hold immense promise for overcoming permeability-selectivity trade-offs and enhancing membrane durability in challenging molecule separations. Following the fabrication of copolymer membranes, additive manufacturing technologies can introduce reactive inks onto substrates to modify pore wall chemistries. However, large-scale implementation is hindered by a lack of systematic optimization.

Modular alkene synthesis from carboxylic acids, alcohols and alkanes via integrated photocatalysis.

Alkenes serve as versatile building blocks in diverse organic transformations. Despite notable advancements in olefination methods, a general strategy for the direct conversion of carboxylic acids, alcohols and alkanes into alkenes remains a formidable challenge owing to their inherent reactivity disparities. Here we demonstrate an integrated photochemical strategy that facilitates a one-pot conversion of these fundamental building blocks into alkenes through a sequential C(sp)-C(sp) bond formation-fragmentation process, utilizing an easily accessible and recyclable phenyl vinyl ketone as the 'olefination reagent'.

Field-derived metrics are critical for effective control of malaria, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa where the disease kills over half a million people yearly. One key metric is entomological inoculation rate, a direct measure of transmission intensities, computed as a product of human biting rates and prevalence of Plasmodium sporozoites in mosquitoes. Unfortunately, current methods for identifying infectious mosquitoes are laborious, time-consuming, and may require expensive reagents that are not always readily available.

Small RNAs (sRNAs), found extensively in plants, play an essential role in plant growth and development. Although various sRNA analysis tools have been developed for plants, the use of most of them depends on programming and command-line environments, which is a challenge for many wet-lab biologists. Furthermore, current sRNA analysis tools mostly focus on the analysis of certain type of sRNAs and are resource-intensive, normally demanding an immense amount of time and effort to learn the use of numerous tools or scripts and assemble them into a workable pipeline to get the final results.
