Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a recurrent and chronic inflammatory skin condition characterized by a high lifetime prevalence and significant impairment of patients' quality of life, primarily due to intense itching and discomfort. However, current pharmacological interventions provide only moderate efficacy and are frequently accompanied by adverse side effects. The immune-pathogenesis of AD involves dysregulation of the Th2 immune response and exacerbation of inflammation related to excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS).

Background: Dyslipidemia is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and atherosclerotic CVD (ASCVD). The composite dietary antioxidant index (CDAI), an emerging measure of combined dietary antioxidant exposure, may provide insights into the relationship between diet and CVD/ASCVD outcomes. We aimed to explore the association between CDAI and the prevalence of CVD/ASCVD, as well as CVD mortality in individuals with dyslipidemia.

Background: Anticoagulants are the primary means for the treatment and prevention of venous thromboembolism (VTE), but their clinical standardized application still remains controversial. The present study intends to comprehensively compare the efficacy and safety of various anticoagulants in VTE.

Methods: Medline, Embase, and Cochrane Library from their inception up to August 2023 were searched to compare the efficacy and safety of various anticoagulants in VTE.

Background: The opioid crisis has reached epidemic proportions worldwide. Unfortunately, prescription of opioid analgesia in the post-operative phase of treatment is contributing to this problem. We aimed to perform a systematic review of randomized controlled trials to establish methods of reducing opioid toxicity following gastrointestinal surgery.

Single-nucleotide polymorphisms in genes associated with the vitamin D pathway related to clinical and therapeutic outcomes of American tegumentary leishmaniasis.

Front Cell Infect Microbiol

January 2025

Laboratório de Imunidade Natural (LIN), Instituto de Patologia Tropical e Saúde Pública, Universidade Federal de Goiás, Goiânia, Goiás, Brazil.

Background: The vitamin D pathway contributes to the microbicidal activity of macrophages against infection. In addition to induction of this pathway, interferon-gamma (IFNγ), interleukin (IL)-15, and IL32γ are part of a network of pro-inflammatory cytokines. The aim of this study was to evaluate single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the components of the vitamin D pathway and associated cytokine genes that could be related to resistance or susceptibility to American tegumentary leishmaniasis (ATL).
