Recent advancements in tissue engineering have promoted the development of nerve guidance conduits (NGCs) that significantly enhance peripheral nerve injury treatment, improving outcomes and recovery rates. However, utilising tailored biomimetic three-dimensional (3D) topological porous structures combined with multiple bio-effect neurotrophic factors to create environments similar to neural tissues, regulate local immune responses, and develop a supportive microenvironment to promote peripheral nerve regeneration and repair poses significant challenges. Herein, a biomimetic extracellular matrix (ECM) NGC featuring an interconnected 3D porous network and sustained delivery of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) is designed using multi-functional gelatine microcapsules (GMs).

Background: With the approval of disease-modifying treatments for 5q-spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), there is an increasing need for biomarkers for disease course and therapeutic response monitoring. Radially sampled Averaged Magnetization Inversion Recovery Acquisitions (rAMIRA) MR-imaging enables spinal cord (SC) gray matter (GM) delineation and quantification in vivo. This study aims to assess SC GM atrophy in patients with 5q-SMA and its associations with clinical disability.

1D moisture-enabled electric generators (MEGs) hold great promise for powering electronic textiles, but their current limitations in power output and operational duration restrict their application in wearable technology. This study introduces a high-performance yarn-based moisture-enabled electric generator (YMEG), which comprises a carbon-fiber core, a cotton yarn active layer with a radial gradient of poly(4-styrensulfonic acid) and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PSSA/PVA), and an aluminum wire as the outer electrode. The unique design maintains a persistent moisture gradient between the interior and exterior electrodes, enhancing performance through the continuous proton diffusion from PSSA and Al⁺ ions from the aluminum wire.

The adaptable, modular structure of muscles, combined with their confluent energy storage allows for numerous architectures found in nature: trunks, tongues, and tentacles to name some more complex ones. To provide an artificial analog to this biological soft muscle, a self-powered, soft hydrostat actuator is presented. As an example of how to use these modules, a worm robot is assembled where the near totality of the body stores electrochemical potential.

Intra-neural Ewing sarcoma is an extremely rare tumour and only a few isolated case reports exist in the literature. A 32-year-old South Asian male presented with wrist and finger drops of 3 months duration. Further evaluation with ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed a tumour of the radial nerve in the arm.
