Parabens have been widely used as preservatives in the cosmetics, food, and pharmaceutical industries for more than 70 years. Monitoring for paraben allergy closely followed with studies reporting paraben testing in standard screening fashion as early as 1940. The frequency of sensitivity to this widely used biocide has remained low and remarkably stable for many decades despite extensive use and progressive expansion of utilization worldwide. The authors select paraben mix as the (non)allergen of the year. Paraben reactions are quite uncommon and generally relevant. Parabens remain one of the least allergenic preservatives available. The unsubstantiated public perception of paraben safety has led to its replacement in many products with preservatives having far greater allergenic potential. This report reviews the well-established safety of parabens from an allergologic standpoint.

The aim of the present work is to investigate the photocatalytic degradation of propyl paraben (propyl para-hydroxybenzoate, PrP) using CuO-ZnO-NPs photocatalyst followed by the identification of the oxidation by-products. The CuO-ZnO-NPs material, synthesized using a green chemistry approach, was used as a photocatalyst for the removal of PrP. The nanoparticles were characterized by XRD, XRF, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, ATG/DTG, FTIR, SEM-EDX, BET and FRX techniques.

The escalating challenge of eliminating persistent micropollutants from aquatic environments acted as a driving force for the development of innovative Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs). Among various AOPs, Light-Activated Persulfate (LAP) stands out for its efficacy due to its homogeneous nature and the potential for coupling with renewable sources, leading to enhanced sustainability. From this perspective, this review summarizes the research on LAP for the degradation of micropollutants over the previous six years.

Congenital hypothyroidism (CH) has been reported as a prevalent endocrine disorder in newborns. Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) have been widely detected in humans and can influence endocrine function, especially thyroid function, and neonates as a susceptible population may be more prone to suffer from CH through exposure to various EDCs. In this study, the concentrations and composition profiles of several typical EDCs were determined in 266 serum samples collected from newborns with (n = 136) and without CH (n = 130) in Beijing, China from 2018 to 2020.

Methylparaben (MP) belongs to the paraben class and is widely used as a preservative in personal care products, medicines, and some foods. MP acts as an endocrine disrupting chemical (EDC) on the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid (HPT) axis. However, the effects of MP have not yet been completely elucidated, as published results are scarce and controversial.

Parabens (PBs) and their metabolites (MBs), triclocarban (TCC), triclosan (TCS), bisphenols (BPs), benzophenones (BzPs), and phthalate metabolites (mPAEs) are typical endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) used in industrial production and daily life. Studies have suggested that these EDCs affect the reproductive system and may cause infertility; however, epidemiological evidence linking EDC exposure to infertility is still lacking. Herein, a total of 302 serum samples from women of reproductive age were collected, and six categories of typical EDCs were analyzed.
