Published: February 2019

As part of a study investigating the rhizosphere and endosphere of the Eastern cottonwood tree, Populus deltoides, a number of isolates were subjected to genome sequencing. The genome-derived 16S rRNA gene sequence of strain CF314 was 97.0 % similar to those of the Chryseobacterium daecheongense and Chryseobacterium polytrichastri type strains, but was essentially equidistant from many other Chryseobacterium type strains. Overall genome similarity metrics (average nucleotide identity, digital DNA-DNA hybridization, average amino acid identity) revealed greatest similarity to the Chryseobacterium daecheongense, Chryseobacterium piperi and Chryseobacterium soldanellicola type strains, but were well below the species thresholds. Strain CF314 had a typical fatty acid composition for Chryseobacterium species and produced flexirubin pigments, but not carotenoids. The genome encodes a number of proteins such as a C-type lectin and terpene synthases that are also found in other plant-associated Bacteroidetes. Based on phenotypic and genomic characteristics of the strain, we propose the new species Chryseobacteriumpopuli. The type strain is CF314=KCTC 62722=LMG 30786.

Synthetic rational design of live-attenuated Zika viruses based on a computational model.

Many viruses of the Flaviviridae family, including the Zika virus (ZIKV), are human pathogens of significant public health concerns. Despite extensive research, there are currently no approved vaccines available for ZIKV and specifically no live-attenuated Zika vaccine. In this current study, we suggest a novel computational algorithm for generating live-attenuated vaccines via the introduction of silent mutation into regions that undergo selection for strong or weak local RNA folding or into regions that exhibit medium levels of sequence conservation.

Long-gauge fiber optic sensors have proven to be valuable tools for structural health monitoring, especially in reinforced concrete (RC) beam structures. While their application in this area has been well-documented, their use in RC columns remains relatively unexplored. This suggests a promising avenue for further research and development.

Probiotics are gaining recognition as a viable strategy for mitigating cardiovascular risk factors. Specifically, recent studies highlight their potential benefits in managing cholesterol levels, blood pressure, and inflammation, which are critical components in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). This comprehensive review aims to elucidate the impact of probiotic consumption on major cardiovascular risk factors, including individuals with hypertension, type II diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome, hypercholesterolemia, and in secondary prevention in coronary artery disease.

Improved Functionality, Quality, and Shelf Life of -Type Camel Sausage Fortified with Spirulina as a Natural Ingredient.

Foods

December 2024

Facultad de Veterinaria, Instituto Agroalimentario de Aragón-IA2, Universidad de Zaragoza-CITA, 50013 Zaragoza, Spain.

The objective of the present work was to examine the effect of incorporating spirulina powder (SP) in -type sausages made exclusively with camel meat, as well as to evaluate its physicochemical, microbiological, and sensory quality attributes and its prebiotic potential. The final purpose was to offer an innovative meat product to increase camel meat consumption. Several innovative fresh sausage formulations were developed using SP (00, 100, 250, and 500 mg/kg) and stored under vacuum conditions with refrigeration at 1 ± 1 °C for 35 days.

Cooperative and Independent Functionality of tmRNA and SmpB in : A Multifunctional Exploration Beyond Ribosome Rescue.

Pathogenesis and Control of Pathogenic Microorganisms Research Team, School of Life and Health Sciences, Hainan Province Key Laboratory of One Health, Collaborative Innovation Center of One Health, Hainan University, Haikou 570228, China.

The trans-translation system, mediated by transfer-messenger RNA (tmRNA, encoded by the gene) and its partner protein SmpB, helps to release ribosomes stalled on defective mRNA and targets incomplete protein products for hydrolysis. Knocking out the and genes in various pathogens leads to different phenotypic changes, indicating that they have both cooperative and independent functionalities. This study aimed to clarify the functional relationships between tmRNA and SmpB in a pathogen that poses threats in aquaculture and human health.
