This study was conducted to enhance the pharmacologic effect of carbamazepine (CBZ) (as a poorly water-soluble drug) by fabricating CBZ-PVP K30 nanobeads using an electrospraying technique. CBZ-PVP K30 nanosystems with various ratios (1:3 and 1:5) at total solution concentrations of 3% and 5% w/v were prepared. The solution concentration extremely affected the size of the samples; where, the nanobeads (mean diameter of 457.65 ± 113.72 nm and 1.16 ± 0.46 µm) were developed at low and high solution concentrations, respectively. DSC thermographs and PXRD patterns precisely showed CBZ amorphization in the electrosprayed nanosystems. Based on the FTIR spectrum of the electrosprayed samples, a feasible interaction between N-H/O-H group of CBZ and PVP carbonyl group was detected. The release studies revealed that the electrosprayed nanosystems represent a comparable rapid dissolution rate with respect to the physical mixtures (PMs) and the pure drug. The results in NMRI mice indicated that the electrosprayed nanoformulation (with the drug: polymer ratio of 1:5 at a total solution concentration of 5% (w/v)) prolonged seizure latency time and decreased mortality percent in strychnine (STR) induced seizure mice more efficiently than the PM. Our finding revealed that the electrospraying as a cost-benefit and one step technique could be effectively applied for improving the physicochemical characteristics and pharmacologic effect of CBZ.

The aim of this work was to investigate novel formulations containing diruthenium(II-III)-ibuprofen (RuIbp) metallodrug encapsulated into the chitosan (CT) biopolymer. Microparticles (RuIbp/CT MPs, ∼ 1 µm) were prepared by spray-drying, and RuIbp/CT-crosslinked nanoparticles (NPs) by ionic gelation (RuIbp/CT-TPP, TPP = tripolyphosphate , RuIbp/CT-TPP-PEG, PEG = poly(ethyleneglycol ) or pre-gel/polyelectrolyte complex method (RuIbp/CT-ALG, ALG = alginate ). Ru analysis was conducted by energy dispersive x-ray fluorescence or inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy, and physicochemical characterisation by powder x-ray diffraction, electronic absorption and FTIR spectroscopies, electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry, thermal analysis, scanning electron, transition electron and atomic force microscopies, and dynamic light scattering.

The chemistry of 1,2,4,5-tetrazines has attracted considerable interest both from a synthetic and applicative standpoint. Recently, regioselective reactions with alkynes and alkenes have been reported to be favored once the tetrazine ring is coordinated to Re(I), Ru(II), and Ir(III) centers. Aiming to further explore the effects of metal coordination, herein, we unveil the unexplored reactivity of tetrazines with chalcogenocyanate anions.

AgS nanoparticles are near-infrared (NIR) probes providing emission in a specific spectral range (~1200 nm), and superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPION) are colloidal systems able to respond to an external magnetic field. A disadvantage of AgS NPs is the attenuated luminescent properties are reduced in aqueous media and human fluids. Concerning SPION, the main drawback is the generation of undesirable clusters that reduce particle stability.

Herein, we compared the ability of linear and cyclic peptides generated to target different protein sites: internal pockets and solvent-exposed sites. We selected human lysozyme (HuL) as a model target protein combined with the computational evolution of linear and cyclic peptides. The sequence evolution of these peptides was based on the PARCE algorithm.

Precision loading of nanoclusters in confined spaces, which has been enthusiastically pursued in the scientific realm, is still associated with some mysteries of "how", "when", and "why". Here, we isolated two similar heterometallic cluster-in-cage compounds, [Ag@CuS@Cu(dpph)]X (X = OH, and X = PF, ; = ), by use of an antigalvanic reaction between organometallic [PhC≡CCu] and PhCSH with elemental silver. Both compounds are formed by fitting an Archimedean Ag@Cu cuboctahedral cluster into a Platonic Cu(dpph) tetrahedral cage [dpph = bis(diphenylphosphino)hexane].
