Two new sodium nickel phosphates, NaNi(PO)·HO (I) and NaNi(PO)OH (II), have been synthesized hydrothermally and characterized by synchrotron X-ray diffraction, electron diffraction, low-temperature thermodynamic and magnetic measurements, and ab initio calculations. Unlike the majority of Ni compounds, I and II show predominant ferromagnetic exchange couplings. I crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2/ n ( a = 14.0395(4) Å, b = 5.1847(14) Å, c = 16.4739(4) Å, β = 110.4186(14)°) and features chains of ferromagnetically coupled Ni ions. In II with the orthorhombic space group Pcmb ( a = 7.5007(15) Å, b = 21.4661(4) Å, c = 7.1732(15) Å), the ferromagnetically coupled Ni ions form dimers arranged on a spin ladder. Both compounds represent rare examples of quasi-one-dimensional ferromagnets. Structural features behind this unusual magnetic behavior are discussed.

In sodium-ion batteries, the layered transition metal oxides used as cathode often experience interlayer sliding of interlayer spacing and lattice variations during charge/discharge, leading to structural damage and capacity degradation. To address this challenge, a La doping strategy guided by Bayesian optimization has been employed to prepare the high-performance O3-NaNiMnCuLaO (NMCL) cathode material. Density functional theory calculations reveal that the O 2p orbital overlaps with the t orbital of transition metals in NMCL, facilitating the formation of Na-O-La bonds and promoting the oxygen redox reaction kinetics.

Bimetallic NiCr nanoparticles decorated on carbon nanofibers (NiCr@CNFs) were synthesized through electrospinning and investigated as catalysts for hydrogen generation from the dehydrogenation of sodium borohydride (SBH). Four distinct compositions were prepared, with chromium content in the catalysts ranging from 5 to 25 weight percentage (wt%). Comprehensive characterization confirmed the successful formation of bimetallic NiCr@CNFs.

Nickel disulfide (NiS) nanoparticles are encapsulated within nitrogen and sulfur co-doped carbon nanosheets, which are grown onto carbon nanofibers to form an array structure (NiS/C@CNF), resulting in a self-supporting film. This encapsulated structure not only prevents the agglomeration of NiS nanoparticles, but also memorably buffers its volume changes during charge/discharge cycles, thereby maintaining structural integrity. The nitrogen and sulfur co-doping enhances electronic conductivity and facilitates the faster ion transport of the carbon backbone, improving the low conductivity of the NiS/C@CNF anodes.

In the electrocatalytic (EC) degradation process, challenges such as inefficient mass transfer, suboptimal mineralization rates, and limited current efficiency have restricted its broader application. To overcome these obstacles, this study synthesized spherical particle electrodes (FeNi@BC) with superior electrocatalytic performance using a bio-inspired preparation method. A three-dimensional electrocatalytic oxidation system based on FeNi@BC electrode, EC/FeNi@BC, showed excellent degradation efficiency of sulfamethoxazole (SMX), reaching 0.

Background: For patients with osteoporosis and rotator cuff tears, there is still no consensus on current treatment methods. The material, structure, and number of anchors have important effects on the repair outcome.
Purpose: To investigate the use of chitosan quaternary ammonium salt-coated nickel-titanium memory alloy (NTMA) anchors to treat rotator cuff injury in shoulders with osteoporosis in a rabbit osteoporosis model.
