The collective impact of cellulosic polymers on the dissolution, solubility, and crystallization inhibition of amorphous active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) is still far from being adequately understood. The goal of this research was to explore the influence of cellulosic polymers and incubation conditions on enhancement of solubility and dissolution of amorphous felodipine, while inhibiting crystallization of the drug from a supersaturated state. Variables, including cellulosic polymer type, amount, ionic strength, and viscosity, were evaluated for effects on API dissolution/solubility and crystallization processes. Water-soluble cellulosic polymers, including HPMC E15, HPMC E5, HPMC K100-LV, L-HPC, and MC, were studied. All cellulosic polymers could extend API dissolution and solubility to various extents by delaying crystallization and prolonging supersaturation duration, with their effectiveness ranked from greatest to least as HPMC E15 > HPMC E5 > HPMC K100-LV > L-HPC > MC. Decreased polymer amount, lower ionic strength, or higher polymer viscosity tended to decrease dissolution/solubility and promote crystal growth to accelerate crystallization. HPMC E15 achieved greatest extended API dissolution and maintenance of supersaturation from a supersaturated state; this polymer thus had the greatest potential for maintaining sustainable API absorption within biologically relevant time frames.

Fabricating complex hierarchical structures mimicking natural vessels and arteries is pivotal for addressing problems of cardiovascular diseases. Various fabrication strategies have been explored to achieve this goal, each contributing unique advantages and challenges to the development of functional vascular grafts. In this study, a three-layered tubular structure resembling vascular grafts was fabricated using biocompatible and biodegradable copolymers of poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) using advanced manufacturing techniques.

This study explored the synergistic combination of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), eucalyptus-derived nanofibrillated cellulose (NFC) and cassava starch to develop bionanocomposites with advanced properties suitable for sustainable and antifungal packaging applications. The influence of AgNPs synthesized through a green method using cocoa bean shell combined with varying concentrations of NFC were investigated. Morphological (scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy), optical (L*, C*, °hue, and opacity), chemical (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy), mechanical (puncture force, tensile strength, and Young's modulus), rheological (flow curve and frequency sweeps, strain, and stress), barrier, and hydrophilicity properties (water vapor permeability, solubility, wettability, and contact angle), as well as the antifungal effect against pathogens (Botrytis cinerea, Penicillium expansum, Colletotrichum musae, and Fusarium semitectum), were analyzed.

The development of functional hydrogel dressings with robust mechanical properties has posed a significant challenge in expediting the healing process of MRSA-infected wounds. To address this, a composite hydrogel, comprising carboxylated soybean cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs), poly(N-isopropyl acrylamide) (PNIPAM), dimethyl diallyl ammonium chloride (PDADMAC), and kaolin (CN/P-K) was synthesized. CNCs served to stabilize the interpenetrating polymer networks of PNIPAM and PDADMAC through hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions, respectively, while the kaolin interlayer improved the material toughness.

In yeast and mammals, the EXO70 subunit of the exocyst complex plays a key role in mediating the tethering of exocytic vesicles to the plasma membrane (PM). In plants, however, the role of EXO70 in regulating vesicle tethering during exocytosis remains unclear. In land plants, EXO70 has undergone significant evolutionary expansion, resulting in multiple EXO70 paralogues that may allow the exocyst to form various isoforms with specific functions.

This study determined the effects of the mycelium post-ripening time on the growth of Pleurotus geesteranus and the substrate metabolism. The characteristic indexes and timing reflecting the physiological maturity of P. geesteranus mycelium were identified to facilitate precise cultivation in factories.
