A 51-year-old man presented with chest tightness, exertional dyspnea, and occasional chest pain for 2 years. The patient visited his local hospital initially, and CT scan revealed a ground glass opacity (GGO) located in the right upper lobe (Fig 1A). Purpose Of The Study: The preclinical study aimed to compare the healing of segmental bone defects treated with biodegradable hyaluronic acid and tricalcium phosphate-based hydrogel with the established autologous spongioplasty. Another aim was to evaluate the hydrogel as a scaffold for osteoinductive growth factor of bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) and stem cells.

Fly ash-cement composite backfill slurry, prepared by partially replacing cement with fly ash, has been demonstrated to effectively reduce the mine backfill costs and carbon emissions associated with cement production. However, the use of fly ash often results in insufficient early and medium-term strength of the backfill material. To address the demand for high medium-term strength in backfill materials under continuous mining and backfilling conditions, this study developed a silica fume-fly ash-cement composite backfill slurry.

Mine tailing deposits pose a global problem, as they may contain metal contaminants in various geochemical forms and are likely to be leached from the surface into the underlying groundwater, which can result in health and/or environmental risks. Unfortunately, little is currently known regarding the water flow and mass balance related to leaching in the vadose zone as these factors are still difficult to measure at the field scale. A pilot-scale experiment was run in a 1 m instrumented column for 6 months to address this issue.

When long-span beams undergo large, the strength of the beam material cannot be fully utilized. To solve this problem, a prestressed unequal-walled rectangular concrete-filled steel box (PURCFSB) beam is proposed in this paper. The prestressing is added to the concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) beam and the section is designed.
