[Genetic mathematical analysis of dermatoglyphic indices in epilepsy].

Zh Nevropatol Psikhiatr Im S S Korsakova

Published: December 1988

Dermatoglyphic investigations were performed in 73 male epileptic patients divided into groups according to the age of the disease onset. Besides, epileptic alcohol addicts, normal male subjects having epileptic or normal children were entered into separate groups. A total of 149 subjects underwent this study. Dermatoglyphic patterns consistent with these groups differentiation were detected. This made it possible to arrange the patterns involving different risks for the subject or his offspring to have epilepsy. The data are important for medical genetic consultation and provide information for the theory of genetic issues in epilepsy.

Muscarinic acetylcholine receptor 3 localized to primary endothelial cilia regulates blood pressure and cognition.

Sci Rep

We previously demonstrated that the inability of primary endothelial cilia to sense fluid shear stress can lead to nitric oxide (NO) deficiency and cause hypertension (HTN). Decreased biosynthesis of NO contributes to cerebral amyloid angiopathy in Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients through increased deposition of amyloid beta (Aβ). However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of HTN and AD are incompletely understood.

Shotgun and targeted proteomics of Mycolicibacterium smegmatis highlight the role of arginine phosphorylation in the functional adaptation to its environment.

Although the phosphorylation of serine (S), threonine (T), and tyrosine (Y) is well-established, arginine phosphorylation (pR) has recently garnered significant attention due to its crucial role in bacteria pathogenicity and stress response. Mycolicibacterium smegmatis, a nonpathogenic surrogate of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, serves as a model for studying mycobacterial pathogenesis. A recent proteomics study identified six pR proteins in M.

Optimal strategies for correcting merotelic chromosome attachments in anaphase.

Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A

February 2025

Courant Institute for Mathematical Sciences and Department of Biology, New York University, New York, NY 10012.

Accurate chromosome segregation in mitosis depends on proper connections of sister chromatids, through microtubules, to the opposite poles of the early mitotic spindle. Transiently, many inaccurate connections are formed and rapidly corrected throughout the mitotic stages, but a small number of merotelic connections, in which a chromatid is connected to both spindle poles, remain lagging at the spindle's equator in anaphase. Most of the lagging chromatids are eventually moved to one or the other pole, likely by a combination of microtubules' turnover and the brute force of pulling by the microtubules' majority from the one pole against the microtubules' minority from the other pole.
