One hundred sequential, epidemiologically unrelated carbapenem-resistant- Acinetobacter baumannii isolates from 11 hospitals in 10 Argentine provinces were collected between January and August 2016. Genes coding for Ambler class D and B carbapenemases were investigated by PCR using specific primers. All isolates were typed using the 3-locus sequence typing and blalike sequence-based typing techniques. The bla gene was recovered in all isolates studied. The population of carbapenem-resistant- A. baumannii in Argentina was principally associated with ST1 (45%), ST25 (34%) and ST79 (15%). ST25 was recovered in all the regions studied and CC2 was not detected.

Introduction: Deep neck infections (DNI) are potentially life-threatening conditions. The infections are commonly polymicrobial, and develop as a result of oral cavity infections, tonsilitis, laryngitis, trauma, or malignancy. Timely diagnostics and management are essential to prevent severe complications such as airway obstruction, sepsis or mediastinitis.

Acinetobacter baumannii is a pathogen that typically causes nosocomial infections. Its resistance to multiple antibiotics poses significant challenges for treatment. Fulminant Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (FMPP) is relatively rare despite Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia is common among children and young adults.

Objectives: Bloodstream infection is one of the main causes of death in hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients. Acinetobacter baumannii is a bacteria associated with bloodstream infection and subsequent death from high antibiotic resistance in this group of patients. We evaluated bloodstream infections of Acinetobacter baumannii in hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients.

Introduction: Antimicrobial resistance is a global issue, with the World Health Organization identifying it as one of the greatest threats to public health, with an estimated 4.95 million deaths linked to bacterial AMR in 2019. Our study aimed to determine the prevalence of mortality among multidrug-resistant organism (MDRO)-infected patients in state hospitals and major specialist hospitals and to identify risk factors that could be associated with mortality outcomes.

Fever of unknown origin (FUO) caused by infection is a disease state characterized by complex pathogens and remains a diagnostic dilemma. Metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) technology is a promising diagnostic tool for identifying pathogenic microbes of FUO caused by infection. Little is known about the clinical impact of mNGS in the etiological diagnosis of FUO.
