Exploring the Ascorbate Requirement of the 2-Oxoglutarate-Dependent Dioxygenases.

J Med Chem

January 2025

Ma̅tai Ha̅ora - Centre for Redox Biology and Medicine, Department of Biomedical Science and Pathology, University of Otago, Christchurch, Christchurch 8140, New Zealand.

In humans, the 2-oxoglutarate-dependent dioxygenases (2-OGDDs) catalyze hydroxylation reactions involved in cell metabolism, the biosynthesis of small molecules, DNA and RNA demethylation, the hypoxic response and the formation of collagen. The reaction is catalyzed by a highly oxidizing ferryl-oxo species produced when the active site non-heme iron engages molecular oxygen. Enzyme activity is specifically stimulated by l-ascorbic acid (ascorbate, vitamin C), an effect not well mimicked by other reducing agents.

The origins and prehistory of domestic sheep () are incompletely understood; to address this, we generated data from 118 ancient genomes spanning 12,000 years sampled from across Eurasia. Genomes from Central Türkiye ~8000 BCE are genetically proximal to the domestic origins of sheep but do not fully explain the ancestry of later populations, suggesting a mosaic of wild ancestries. Genomic signatures indicate selection by ancient herders for pigmentation patterns, hornedness, and growth rate.

Background: Although the benefits of engaging in cardiac rehabilitation are well established, patient perceptions of the changes in their health-related quality of life are poorly documented. This systematic review synthesized qualitative studies on patients' perspectives of change in their health-related quality of life after attending cardiac rehabilitation.

Objective: To identify and synthesize the best available evidence on the perspective of patients living with heart disease about the changes in their health-related quality of life after attending cardiac rehabilitation.

Growth hormone-releasing hormone signaling and manifestations within the cardiovascular system.

Rev Endocr Metab Disord

January 2025

Interdisciplinary Stem Cell Institute, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Biomedical Research Building, 1501 N.W. 10th Avenue, Room 908, Miami, FL, 33136, USA.

Growth hormone (GH)-releasing hormone (GHRH), a hypothalamic peptide initially characterized for its role in GH regulation, has gained increasing attention due to its GH-independent action on peripheral physiology, including that of the cardiovascular system. While its effects on the peripheral vasculature are still under investigation, GHRH and synthetic agonists have exhibited remarkable receptor-mediated cardioprotective properties in preclinical models. GHRH and its analogs enhance myocardial function by improving contractility, reducing oxidative stress, inflammation, and offsetting pathological remodeling.

The Daily Process of Interpersonal Conflict and Mood among Chinese Adolescents: A Multilevel Moderated Mediation Analysis of Cognitive Appraisal, Social Support and Psychological Capital.

Res Child Adolesc Psychopathol

January 2025

School of Developmental Psychology, Faculty of Psychology, Beijing Normal University, 19 Xinjiekouwai Avenue, Haidian District, Beijing, 100875, China.

A growing body of literature has confirmed the within-person process from interpersonal conflict to adolescent mood on a day-to-day timescale. However, research on how, when and for whom adolescent interpersonal conflict relates to their daily mood is underdeveloped. This study examined whether interpersonal conflict is related to mood through threat appraisal and self-blaming attribution and whether these relationships would be moderated by daily social support and psychological capital.
