A 61-year-old female was evaluated because of severe symptomatic mitral regurgitation. She was found to have a foreign body in the heart by cardiac catheterization. Through a retrospective review of serial imaging studies, we found that a hypodermic needle had been retained in the body from a prior abdominal wall surgery and had subsequently migrated to the heart. During surgical mitral valve replacement the needle was identified and removed. We demonstrate the trajectory of this foreign body from the abdominal wall into the heart. < Foreign bodies can migrate from the subcutaneous tissue into the venous circulation and subsequently into the heart. A thorough surgical history is important in the evaluation of foreign bodies in the heart. An assessment of symptoms and future risk of complications should guide the removal of cardiac foreign bodies.>.

Background: Routinely separating the ligamentum teres uteri (LTU) intraoperatively remains an unresolved issue for female children undergoing surgery for indirect inguinal hernia (IIH).

Aim: To identify the effect of LTU preservation in laparoscopic high hernia sac ligation (LHSL) in children with IIH.

Methods: The participants were 100 female children with unilateral IIH admitted from April 2022 to January 2024 to the Pediatric Surgery Department of Zhangzhou Municipal Hospital of Fujian Province.

Bioaugmented design and functional evaluation of low damage implantable array electrodes.

Bioact Mater

May 2025

State Key Laboratory for Manufacturing System Engineering, School of Mechanical Engineering, Xi'an Jiaotong University, China.

Implantable neural electrodes are key components of brain-computer interfaces (BCI), but the mismatch in mechanical and biological properties between electrode materials and brain tissue can lead to foreign body reactions and glial scarring, and subsequently compromise the long-term stability of electrical signal transmission. In this study, we proposed a new concept for the design and bioaugmentation of implantable electrodes (bio-array electrodes) featuring a heterogeneous gradient structure. Different composite polyaniline-gelatin-alginate based conductive hydrogel formulations were developed for electrode surface coating.

Background: Exogenous foreign body aspiration is a common high-risk condition in children. In a few cases, foreign body aspiration can lead to airway granulomas that interfere with tracheoscopic foreign body removal and threaten the life of the child.

Methods: This study was a retrospective analysis of the clinical data of 184 pediatric patients who were admitted to Quanzhou Children's Hospital from 2018 to 2021 with exogenous tracheobronchial foreign bodies.
