The prolongation of the QT interval is a relatively rare but serious adverse drug reaction. It can lead to torsade de pointes, which is potentially life-threatening. The study's objectives were: determine the use of QT interval-prolonging drugs in an elderly community-dwelling population at risk of medication misadventure and identify recommendations regarding the risk of QT interval prolongation made by pharmacists when performing medication reviews. In a retrospective evaluation, 500 medication review reports from Australian pharmacists were analysed. In patients taking at least one QT interval-prolonging drug, the individual risk of drug-induced QT interval prolongation was assessed. Recommendations of pharmacists to avoid the occurrence of this drug-related problem were examined. There was a high prevalence of use of potentially QT interval-prolonging drugs (71% patients), with 11% of patients taking at least one drug with a known risk. Pharmacists provided specific recommendations in only eight out of 35 patients (23%) with a high-risk score and taking drugs with known risk of QT interval prolongation. Pharmacists' recommendations, when present, were focused on drugs with known risk of QT interval prolongation, rather than patients' additional risk factors. There is a need to improve knowledge and awareness of this topic among pharmacists performing medication reviews.

Background: YYD601 is a new dual delayed-release formulation of esomeprazole, developed to enhance plasma exposure and prolong the duration of acid suppression.
Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the safety, pharmacokinetic (PK), and pharmacodynamic (PD) profiles of YYD601 20 mg following single and multiple oral administrations in healthy, fasting adult Koreans, and to compare these outcomes to those of the conventional esomeprazole 20 mg capsule.
Methods: A randomized, open-label, two-period crossover study was conducted in 28 participants, who were divided into two treatment groups: one group received YYD601 20 mg, and the other received conventional esomeprazole 20 mg, once daily for five consecutive days.

Rainbow trout () is a freshwater fish susceptible to chemical and microbial spoilage, limiting its shelf life. This study aimed to enhance and extend the rainbow trout fillets' shelf life stored at 4°C ± 1°C through an immersion treatment using ultrasound-assisted, defatted pine nut ( Wallich) extracts at concentrations of 1% and 2% (w/v), compared to the control group (0% pine nut). Evaluations were conducted at storage intervals of 0, 4, 8, 12, 16, and 20 days.

The impact of obesity on heart rate variability (HRV) and ventricular repolarization, both vital indicators of cardiovascular health, is the focus of this review. Obesity, measured by BMI, waist circumference, and waist-to-hip ratio, significantly increases cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk due to structural and autonomic heart changes. Findings show that obese individuals exhibit prolonged QT and Tpeak-to-Tend (Tpe) intervals, suggesting delayed ventricular recovery and greater arrhythmia risk.

Multi-refractory immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is not uncommon and associated with high morbidity and mortality rates. Although the precise mechanism of ITP is not yet fully understood, a therapeutic approach that relies on using a single agent in each treatment line may not be sufficient in this population. We report the case of a 67-year-old female with long-standing multi-refractory ITP treated with a combination of Daratumumab and Romiplostim who achieved a durable response for more than 42 weeks.

Background: Catheter associated urinary tract infection is the most common nosocomial infection that is associated with serious systemic infections that imply prolonged hospital stay, financial costs for hospitalization, and increased morbidity, and mortality. There is a dearth of evidence related to nurse's knowledge and practice of catheter associated urinary tract infection prevention in Oromia, Ethiopia. Determining the nurse's knowledge and preventive practice of catheter associated urinary tract infections and their associated factors is important for developing strategies of its prevention.
