AI Article Synopsis

  • - The genomic sequences of two enterovirus C109 isolates were obtained from two separate cases involving respiratory disease in children.
  • - The isolates are named EV-C109 USA/FL/2016-21003 and EV-C109 USA/FL/2016-21002.
  • - This research represents the first documentation of EV-C109 genomes identified in the United States.

Article Abstract

The genomic sequences of two enterovirus C109 isolates (EV-C109 USA/FL/2016-21003 and EV-C109 USA/FL/2016-21002) were obtained during two separate case investigations of respiratory disease in two children. This marks the first description of EV-C109 genomes in the United States.

Background: The hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) was caused by species of Enterovirus A and Enterovirus B in the Asian-Pacific region. Broad-spectrum monoclonal antibodies (mAb) that can bind multiple serotypes of enteroviruses have gradually become a research hotspot in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of HFMD.

Methods: In this study, a mAb 1H4 was obtained using monoclonal antibody technology by immunizing purified virus particles of Coxsackievirus A5 (CV-A5).

Introduction: Viral infections are the predominant cause of acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis (AHC) across the globe. From July to August of 2023, a large-scale conjunctivitis outbreak was witnessed in India, affecting a large number of individuals. The present study was initiated to identify the causative agent responsible for the AHC outbreak in Kalburgi district of Karnataka state.

The epidemiological association of coxsackievirus B infection with type 1 diabetes suggests that therapeutic strategies that reduce viral load could delay or prevent disease onset. Moreover, recent studies suggest that treatment with antiviral agents against coxsackievirus B may help preserve insulin levels in type 1 diabetic patients. In the current study, we performed small RNA-sequencing to show that infection of immortalized trophoblast cells with coxsackievirus caused differential regulation of several miRNAs.

Background: Myocarditis is an inflammation of the heart muscle most often caused by viral infections. Sex differences in the immune response during myocarditis have been well described but upstream mechanisms in the heart that might influence sex differences in disease are not completely understood.

Methods: Male and female BALB/c wild type mice received an intraperitoneal injection of heart-passaged coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3) or vehicle control.
