This review compiles the results of a series of studies on Hatano high- and low-avoidance animals (HAA and LAA, respectively) established at the Hatano Research Institute, Food and Drug Safety Center, Japan. The HAA and LAA lines were selected and bred from Sprague Dawley rats for high and low avoidance learning, respectively, in a shuttlebox task since 1985. Although Hatano rats were selected only based on their behavioral traits in the active avoidance task, strain differences between the HAA and LAA lines were also observed in their stress responses and reproductive functions. However, the most noticeable finding of Hatano rats is a matched result in both active and passive avoidance tasks. The HAA and LAA lines are useful for next-generation toxicological studies, because the hereditary characters of behaviors or endocrine functions are well controlled.

Laying ducks in cage environments face various stressors, including the fear of novelty, which negatively affects their behaviour and performance. The reasons behind the variation in behaviour under identical stress conditions are not well understood. This study investigated how different behaviours affect production performance, immune response, antioxidant capabilities, adrenal gene expression, and serum metabolite profiles in caged laying ducks subjected to the same stressor.

Purpose: To compare texture-based analysis using convolutional neural networks (CNNs) against lung densitometry in detecting chest computed tomography (CT) image abnormalities.
Material And Methods: A U-NET was used for lung segmentation, and an ensemble of 7 CNN architectures was trained for the classification of low-attenuation areas (LAAs; emphysema, cysts), normal-attenuation areas (NAAs; normal parenchyma), and high-attenuation areas (HAAs; ground-glass opacities, crazy paving/linear opacity, consolidation). Lung densitometry also computes (LAAs, ≤-950 HU), NAAs (-949 to -700 HU), and HAAs (-699 to -250 HU).

Background: We sought to quantify diffuse parenchymal lung disease (DPLD) extent using quantitative computed tomography (CT) analysis and to investigate its association with radiation pneumonitis (RP) development in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients receiving definitive concurrent chemoradiation therapy (CCRT).
Methods: A total of 82 NSCLC patients undergoing definitive CCRT were included in this prospective cohort study. Pretreatment CT scans were analyzed using quantitative CT analysis software.
