Thymopentin treatment in genital warts of long duration.

Cancer Detect Prev

Published: December 1988

The immunomodulatory effect of thymopentin as therapy in genital warts of long duration and the proliferative responses of the patient's peripheral blood mononuclear cells were investigated in this pilot study. The observations in 6 patients suggest that subcutaneous injections of thymopentin (50 mg) beneficially influence the systems of therapy-resistant genital warts. The small number of patients and controls used in the assessment of the proliferation responses allows only a descriptive analysis of the results, but definitive trends can be observed in the Con A- and PHA-induced proliferation tests. These clinical observations, the theoretical considerations, and the low rate of side effects of thymopentin reported also by other investigators all emphasize the importance of further well-controlled double-blind studies on the treatment of genital warts with thymopentin.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the United States and is associated with the development of genital warts, precancerous lesions, and cancers of the oropharynx, anus, penis, vulva, vagina, and cervix. HPV-associated diseases are preventable through vaccination. An Australian nationwide vaccination program will effectively eliminate cervical cancer as a public health concern by the year 2035.

Background: A significant proportion of individuals with symptoms of sexually transmitted infection (STI) delay or avoid seeking healthcare, and digital diagnostic tools may prompt them to seek healthcare earlier. Unfortunately, none of the currently available tools fully mimic clinical assessment or cover a wide range of STIs.

Methods: We prospectively invited attendees presenting with STI-related symptoms at Melbourne Sexual Health Centre to answer gender-specific questionnaires covering the symptoms of 12 common STIs using a computer-assisted self-interviewing system between 2015 and 2018.

Infantile perianal pyramidal protrusion is characterized by a light pink to skin-colored soft tissue protrusion that is often midline and anterior [A1]to the anus. It most commonly occurs in young females and is relatively asymptomatic. Although biopsies are not routinely done, histopathology is relatively nonspecific and can appear similar to an acrochordon.

High Risk of HPV Related Preneoplastic and Neoplastic Vulvar Lesions in Women Living With HIV.

Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit, Department of Neuroscience, San Carlo Borromeo Hospital, ASST Santi Paolo e Carlo, Milan, Italy.

Objective: We aimed to investigate the epidemiology of human papilloma virus (HPV)-related preneoplastic and neoplastic vulvar lesions in a large cohort of women living with HIV (WLWH).

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively selected 1,796 WLWH who had a gynecological examination, cervical cytology, high-risk (HR-) HPV test, vulvoscopy, and colposcopy with targeted biopsies when necessary between 1987 and 2020 at 2 Italian institutions. Univariable and multivariable regression analyses were carried out to test the association of the anamnestic and clinical data with the development of precancerous and cancerous lesions.
