This study explores flow boiling pressure drop of FC-72 in a rectangular channel subjected to single-side and double-sided heating for vertical upflow, vertical downflow, and horizontal flow with positive inlet quality. Analysis of temporal records of pressure transducer signals is used to assess the influences of orientation, mass velocity, inlet quality, heat flux, and single-sided versus double-sided heating on magnitude of pressure drop oscillations, while fast Fourier transforms of the same records are used to capture dominant frequencies of oscillations. Time-averaged pressure drop results are also presented, with trends focusing on the competing influences of body force and flow inertia, and particular attention paid to the impact of vapor content at the test section inlet and the rate of vapor generation within the test section on pressure drop. Several popular pressure drop correlations are evaluated against the present pressure drop database. Predictions are presented for subsets of the database corresponding to low and high ranges of inlet quality and mass velocity. The correlations are ranked based on mean absolute error, overall data trends, and data spread. While most show general success in capturing the data trends, they do so with varying degrees of accuracy.

Methanogenic archaea (methanogens) possess fascinating metabolic characteristics, such as the ability to fix molecular nitrogen (N). Methanogens are of biotechnological importance due to the ability to produce methane (CH) from molecular hydrogen (H) and carbon dioxide (CO) and to excrete proteinogenic amino acids. This study focuses on analyzing the link between biological methanogenesis and amino acid excretion under N-fixing conditions.

Climate change policies are driving the oil and gas industry to explore CO injection for carbon dioxide storage in reservoirs. In the United States, a substantial portion of oil production relies on CO-enhanced-oil-recovery (CO-EOR), demonstrating a growing interest in using CO to address various production challenges like condensate mitigation, pressure maintenance, and enhancing productivity in tight reservoirs. CO injection introduces gases like natural gas and N, either pre-existing or as impurities in the injected CO gas.

The relationship between diurnal temperature range (DTR) and daily mortality from 2005 to 2020 is examined for seven large metropolitan areas in Virginia using distributed lag non-linear models that control for temperature and humidity. The relative risk of mortality increases for very high DTR, and there is a short lag effect of several days. High risk DTR days are rare, typically occurring less than 1% of the time at most locations.

In this study, we examined the correlation between anatomical dimensions, spray administration parameters, pressure drop across 40 pediatric nasal cavities, and in vitro posterior drug delivery (PDD) using Nasacort ALLERGY 24HR and FLONASE SENSIMIST nasal suspensions sprays, with different nozzle and actuation designs. The importance of each parameter and their interaction in the outcome (PDD) was evaluated. To do so, initially we measured anatomical and administration-related parameters, and the pressure drop of each cavity.

Electrospun fibrous materials with fine fibers and small pores are fundamental for particulate matter (PM) filtration, addressing its harmful environmental and health impacts. However, the existing electrospun fibers are still limited to their sub-micron diameters and unstable surface electrostatic effect, leading to deteriorated filtration performance after prolonged storage or wetting. Herein, the study creates nanofibrous membranes with long-time stable electrostatics by electret-enhanced electrospinning.
