Cell polarity, manifested by the localization of proteins to distinct polar plasma membrane domains, is a key prerequisite of multicellular life. In plants, PIN auxin transporters are prominent polarity markers crucial for a plethora of developmental processes. Cell polarity mechanisms in plants are distinct from other eukaryotes and still largely elusive. In particular, how the cell polarities are propagated and maintained following cell division remains unknown. Plant cytokinesis is orchestrated by the cell plate-a transient centrifugally growing endomembrane compartment ultimately forming the cross wall. Trafficking of polar membrane proteins is typically redirected to the cell plate, and these will consequently have opposite polarity in at least one of the daughter cells. Here, we provide mechanistic insights into post-cytokinetic re-establishment of cell polarity as manifested by the apical, polar localization of PIN2. We show that the apical domain is defined in a cell-intrinsic manner and that re-establishment of PIN2 localization to this domain requires de novo protein secretion and endocytosis, but not basal-to-apical transcytosis. Furthermore, we identify a PINOID-related kinase WAG1, which phosphorylates PIN2 in vitro and is transcriptionally upregulated specifically in dividing cells, as a crucial regulator of post-cytokinetic PIN2 polarity re-establishment.

Our work describes the green synthesis of silver sulfide nanoparticles (AgS NPs) and their formulation into polycaprolactone fibers (PCL), aiming to improve the multifunctional biological performance of PCL membranes as scaffolds. For this purpose, an extract of rosemary () was employed as a reducing agent for the AgS NPs, obtaining irregular NPs and clusters of 5-60 nm, with a characteristic SPR absorption at 369 nm. AgS was successfully incorporated into PCL fibers by electrospinning using heparin (HEP) as a stabilizer/biocompatibility agent, obtaining nanostructured fibers with a ca.

is the specific pathogen for "milky disease" in the Chinese mitten crab (), accounting for huge losses to the industry. And yet, there is no precise study describing the pathogenesis of , largely hindering the development of novel control methods against its causing diseases. Here, we compared the transcriptomes of cells collected from a control group (cultured without hemocytes) and a treatment group (cultured with hemocytes), using RNA sequencing.

The oncogenes yes-associated protein () and transcriptional coactivator with PDZ-binding motif () are potent liver oncogenes. Because gene mutations cannot fully explain their nuclear enrichment, we aim to understand which mechanisms cause activation in liver cancer cells. The combination of proteomics and functional screening identified numerous apical cell polarity complex proteins interacting with YAP and TAZ.

Metabolomics analyses enable the examination and identification of endogenous biochemical reaction products, revealing information on the metabolic pathways and processes active within a living cell or organism. Determination of metabolic shifts can provide important information on a treatment or disease. Unlike other omics fields that typically have analytes of the same chemical class with common building blocks, those that fall under the nomenclature of metabolites encompass a wide array of different compounds with very diverse physiochemical properties.

The growth and survival of cells with different fitness, such as those with a proliferative advantage or a deleterious mutation, is controlled through cell competition. During development, cell competition enables healthy cells to eliminate less fit cells that could jeopardize tissue integrity, and facilitates the elimination of pre-malignant cells by healthy cells as a surveillance mechanism to prevent oncogenesis. Malignant cells also benefit from cell competition to promote their expansion.
