Introduction: This study characterized the clinico-epidemiological profile of American cutaneous leishmaniasis (ACL) cases in Barbalha, Ceará State, Brazil.
Methods: Medical records of 363 patients visiting Federal University of Cariri between 2009 and 2014 were analyzed.
Results: ACL was more prevalent in men with low education level from rural zones. The main presentation was a single ulcer, mainly in the lower limbs, and 49.8% also presented lymphadenomegaly. The annual incidence ranged from 2.83 to 22.60 per 10,000 inhabitants.
Conclusions: The rates observed in this study indicate the importance of additional research to contribute to the control of this endemic disease.

Introduction: Genodermatoses refer to a group of heterogenous rare genetic diseases with cutaneous expression. Several genodermatoses present with multisystem involvement that can range from mild to life-threatening conditions leading to increased morbidity and mortality.
Objective: Given the paucity in the literature in the field of genodermatoses, especially in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, and building upon the first established genodermatoses database based in Lebanon, this study aimed to decipher the genetic basis of two different types of skin-inherited diseases (androgenic alopecia and vitiligo).

Background: The definition of T1b cutaneous melanoma was changed in the 8th edition of the AJCC staging system based on survival differences but not risk of sentinel lymph node (SLN) metastases. We sought to evaluate changes in SLN biopsy (SLNB) use and rates of positive SLNB in response to updated staging criteria, and to evaluate the incidence of high-risk features in T1a melanoma in whom SLNB is now recommended.
Study Design: The 2021 National Cancer Database Melanoma PUF was used to obtain SLNB utilization and positivity rates in T1 (thin) melanoma (thickness ≤1.

Background: The vitamin D pathway contributes to the microbicidal activity of macrophages against infection. In addition to induction of this pathway, interferon-gamma (IFNγ), interleukin (IL)-15, and IL32γ are part of a network of pro-inflammatory cytokines. The aim of this study was to evaluate single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the components of the vitamin D pathway and associated cytokine genes that could be related to resistance or susceptibility to American tegumentary leishmaniasis (ATL).

Few studies have examined outcomes for Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) for cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) in Black versus White patients. We compared time to surgery and defect sizes after MMS between Black versus White patients with cSCC. Patients with biopsy-proven cSCC treated with MMS at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania were identified from a prospectively maintained database (2006-2023).
