We fabricated -type boron (B)-doped silicon nanoparticles (SiNPs) with a mean diameter of 3.4 nm by a complex chemical reaction of inexpensive pure Si and pure B powders using a combination of ultra-high-speed mixing and thermal annealing techniques. The hole concentration in the -type SiNPs increased with increasing Si:B blend ratio because of the incorporation of electrically active B atoms into the SiNP core; thus, the conductance of the -type SiNPs was also enhanced by increasing the mobile carrier concentration. Furthermore, we discuss the effect of the Si:B blend ratio on the photovoltaic performances of the heterojunction solar cells consisting of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) doped with poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS)/-type SiNPs/-type Si with a micro-pyramidal structure. The photovoltaic parameters decreased with increasing Si:B blend ratio because of the influence of the insufficient collection rate of the separated charge carriers resulting from reduction in the junction region and increase in the carrier recombination. This resulted in the highest power conversion efficiency of 2.57% at a low Si:B blend ratio. These findings are important for designing heterojunction solar cells using -type SiNPs.

A series of composites have been fabricated by introducing ionic liquid (IL) (ship) into chromium terephthalate MIL-101 (bottle) by ship-in-bottle method (IL@MIL-101s), the resulting IL@MIL-101s are endowed to high water retention, which is essential to proton conducting on multiple energy-involved applications at the low relative humidity (RH). The humidifying IL can lower water loss and increase water uptake, and thus improves water retention properties of the composites aided by the mesoporous MIL-101 at low RH. The hydropenic proton transfer pathways are modeled inside MOF and between IL-MOF, diminishing energy barrier routes for proton hopping, and thus a promotive proton transfer is rendered via Grotthuss mechanism.

The maintenance of genetic variation in male sexual display traits in the face of strong directional sexual selection from female preferences is an ongoing evolutionary conundrum. Condition dependence and the genic capture hypothesis are often cited as theoretical resolutions to this problem, yet little is known about the ability of condition dependence itself to evolve.
