We demonstrate for the first time, to the best of our knowledge, Raman random lasing in a continuous-wave (CW) excited, completely biocompatible and biodegradable carrot medium naturally composed of fibrous cellulose scattering medium and rich carotene Raman gain medium. The CW-laser-induced photoluminescence threshold and linewidth analysis at the Stokes modes of carotene show a characteristic lasing action with a threshold of 130 W/cm and linewidth narrowing with mode Q factor up to 1300. Polarization study of output modes reveals that lasing mode mostly retains the source polarization state. A neat and interesting linear temperature dependence of emission intensity is also discussed. Easy availability, biocompatibility, excitation-dependent emission wavelength selectivity, and temperature sensitivity are hallmarks of this elegant Raman laser medium with strong potential as an optical source for applications in bio-sensing, imaging, and spectroscopy.

Infrared absorption spectroscopy and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy were integrated into three data fusion strategies-hybrid (concatenated spectra), mid-level (extracted features from both datasets) and high-level (fusion of predictions from both models)-to enhance the predictive accuracy for xylazine detection in illicit opioid samples. Three chemometric approaches-random forest, support vector machine, and -nearest neighbor algorithms-were employed and optimized using a 5-fold cross-validation grid search for all fusion strategies. Validation results identified the random forest classifier as the optimal model for all fusion strategies, achieving high sensitivity (88% for hybrid, 92% for mid-level, and 96% for high-level) and specificity (88% for hybrid, mid-level, and high-level).

This study employed a magnetic field to investigate the impact of myoglobin (Mb) oxidation (0-20 mmol/L HO) on the gel properties of myofibrillar protein (MP). The results indicated that magnetic field could further facilitate the rearrangement of the Mb structure, resulting in the transfer of its internal reactive groups to the external environment.
