Integrin Trafficking, Fibronectin Architecture, and Glomerular Injury upon AdipoR1 Depletion.

J Am Soc Nephrol

January 2025

Research Program for Clinical and Molecular Metabolism, Faculty of Medicine, University of Helsinki, Helsinki, Finland.

Background: Deficiency of adiponectin and its downstream signaling may contribute to the pathogenesis of kidney injury in type 2 diabetes. Adiponectin activates intracellular signaling via adiponectin receptors 1 and 2 (AdipoR1 and AdipoR2), but the role of AdipoR-mediated signaling in glomerular injury in type 2 diabetes remains unknown.

Methods: The expression of AdipoR1 in the kidneys of people with type 2 diabetes and the expression of podocyte proteins or injury markers in the kidneys of AdipoR1-knockout (AdipoR1-KO) mice and immortalized AdipoR1-deficient human podocytes were investigated by immunohistochemistry and immunoblotting.

The use of mesh repair is a frequently employed technique in the clinical management of abdominal wall defects. However, for intraperitoneal onlay mesh (IPOM), the traditional mesh requires additional fixation methods, and these severely limit its application in the repair of abdominal wall defects. We drew inspiration from the adhesion properties of mussels for the present study, functionalized carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) with dopamine (DA), and added polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) to the composite to further improve the wet adhesive ability of hydrogels.

Kidney allograft torsion (KAT) is a rare but critical complication of kidney transplantation that can lead to graft loss due to acute ischemia. This report presents a case of KAT resulting in graft loss 9 months following intraperitoneal simultaneous pancreas and kidney (SPK) transplant and reviews previous reports to identify potential high-risk features. A 38-year-old female with end-stage renal disease secondary to Type 1 diabetes mellitus underwent an intraperitoneal enteric drained SPK transplant.

Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical outcomes after a transumbilical single-site laparoscopic-assisted Soave operation (TSLSO) for Hirschsprung disease (HD) in children, with a 10-year follow‑up results assessment.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 165 children with HD from January 2013 to January 2023. The operation method was a TSLSO.

Background: Vascular calcification is common and progressive in patients with chronic kidney disease. However, the risk factors associated with the progression of vascular calcification in patients receiving maintenance dialysis have not been fully elucidated. Here, we aimed to evaluate vascular calcification and identify the factors associated with its progression in patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis.
