The current data concerning the efficacy of exogenous melatonin treatment, especially with respect to night-shift workers, are presented. Therapy of sleep disorders experienced by night-shift workers is not always successful. To assess the results of melatonin therapy in shift workers, it is essential to perform extensive analyses of numerous physiological functions that may be affected by this work system as well as of possible late health effects in this group of workers.

Although there exist many relevant data about the significant influence of psychosocial risk factors for coronary artery disease, there is no reliable concept for an integrated psycho-somato-social primary prevention for CAD. So this article is to be a first attempt on such a psycho-somatic primary prevention, based on the well known psycho-social risk factors. Referring to the pathological and psycho-physiological effects of these risk factors the need of equal assessment of all risk factors will be discussed.

The consequences of iodine deficiency occurring still in Poland include serious health disorders in the population, such as psycho- somatic retardation, hypothyroidism, endemic goitre, even cretinism. Administration of iodized edible salt with daily diet is an effective method for prevention of iodine deficiency. The condition of success is the proper level of potassium iodide in this salt and adequate distribution of iodized salt in various regions of the country.
