Society is undergoing a shift in gender politics. Science and medicine are part of this conversation, not least as women's representation and pay continue to drop as one progresses through more senior academic and clinical levels. Naming and redressing these inequalities needs to be a priority for us all.Declaration of interestNone.

While previous research has demonstrated the therapeutic efficacy of telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) overexpression using adeno-associated virus and cytomegalovirus vectors to combat aging, the broader implications of TERT germline gene editing on the mammalian genome, proteomic composition, phenotypes, lifespan extension, and damage repair remain largely unexplored. In this study, we elucidate the functional properties of transgenic mice carrying the Tert transgene, guided by precise gene targeting into the Rosa26 locus via embryonic stem (ES) cells under the control of the elongation factor 1α (EF1α) promoter. The Tert knock-in (TertKI) mice harboring the EF1α-Tert gene displayed elevated telomerase activity, elongated telomeres, and extended lifespan, with no spontaneous genotoxicity or carcinogenicity.

Unleashed Remarkable Energy Storage Performance in BiKTiO-based Relaxor Ferroelectrics by Local Structural Fluctuation.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

October 2024

Department of Physical Chemistry and Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Materials Genome Engineering, University of Science and Technology Beijing, Beijing, 100083, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Dielectric capacitors can store energy quickly and have high power, but achieving both high energy density and efficiency is difficult, especially over varying conditions.
  • This study introduces a method using NaTaO in ferroelectric relaxor materials to enhance local structural fluctuations, leading to better energy-storage capabilities.
  • The resulting ceramic demonstrates excellent performance with an energy density of 15.0 J/cm, efficiency up to 80%, and stability across a wide frequency range (10-200 Hz) while also enduring extensive cycling.

The "Broadband China" has enabled China to achieve leapfrog development in the construction of its high-speed broadband networks, thereby accelerating the development of digital infrastructure and unleashing the potential for financial sector growth. This has created a strong impetus for economy to shift towards high-quality development. An in-depth understanding of the empirical correlation between the development of digital infrastructure and financial progress is absent, leaving an unexplored domain of research concerning the impact of the "Broad China" strategy on financial agglomeration (), financial scale (), and digital finance ).

Natural Compound-Rhein and PROTACs Unleash Potent VEGFR-2 Degraders.

Chem Biodivers

August 2024

Engineering Research Centre of Molecular Medicine of Ministry of Education, Key Laboratory of Fujian Molecular Medicine, Key Laboratory of Precision Medicine and Molecular Diagnosis of Fujian Universities, Key Laboratory of Xiamen Marine and Gene Drugs, School of Medicine, Huaqiao University, 3622021, Quanzhou, P. R. China.

Article Synopsis
  • VEGFR-2 is an important target in cancer treatment research, and this study developed 15 new PROTAC molecules based on the natural compound rhein, with D9 showing significant antitumor effects in A549 cells.
  • D9 demonstrated a much lower IC value (5.88 μM) compared to rhein (88.45 μM), indicating its superior potency in promoting VEGFR-2 degradation and inducing cancer cell death through apoptosis and cell cycle arrest.
  • The research supports using natural product-based PROTAC technology as a promising approach for creating effective drugs that degrade VEGFR-2, paving the way for future cancer therapies.

[Embracing the Era of Artificial Intelligence: Innovation and Preparation in Nursing Education].

Hu Li Za Zhi

April 2024

PhD, RN, Professor, Department of Allied Health Education and Digital Learning, National Taipei University of Nursing and Health Sciences, Taiwan, ROC.

Rapid recent advances in information technology have opened the door for artificial intelligence (AI)-related technologies to be applied extensively across many industries. The Ministry of Education has emphasized the importance of cultivating advanced-level professionals in diverse fields, particularly in smart machinery, the Asia-Silicon Valley sector, green energy technology, biotechnology, national defense, new agricultural, and circular economy industries, to enhance innovation and promote industrial competitiveness (Kuo, 2019). While interdisciplinary talent in AI and digital innovation is being actively developed elsewhere, nursing education remains in the exploratory phase of AI and digital technology talent cultivation.
