Ready for the open waters? Recent developments have fundamentally changed our knowledge of vinyl cation reactivity. The myth that they are too reactive for a predictable reaction design has been debunked, and the applicability of their most distinguished feature, namely their carbene-like reactivity, has taken a major leap forwards. Vinyl cations have thus matured into distinct reactive intermediates with a bright future ahead.

Transition-metal-catalyzed [2 + 2 + 2] annulation of alkynes is an efficient pathway for the synthesis of aromatic compounds. However, most of the established methods require noble metal catalysts. Herein, we report a copper-catalyzed intermolecular [2 + 2 + 2] annulation of diynes with alkynes through vinyl cation intermediates, enabling the atom-economical preparation of biologically important carbazole skeletons.

A poly(vinyl alcohol)/montmorillonite/titania (PVA/MMT/TiO) nanocomposite film was fabricated via a simple solution casting strategy for the removal of cationic as well as anionic dyes. The developed nanocomposite film was subjected to X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform Infrared (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis, dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), mechanical property evaluation, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis. The embedding of MMT and TiO nanoparticles onto a PVA matrix has been confirmed from XRD, FTIR, and SEM analysis.

With the exponential growth of global photovoltaic (PV) installed capacity, the quantity of discarded PV modules continues to rise. This study innovatively explored the sustainable recovery and utilization of raw materials from discarded solar panels, focusing on the transformation of recycled silicon into microporous silica nanoparticles (MSN). Low toxic organic solvent ethyl acetate (EA) was for the first time utilized to reduce the viscosity of ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) and facilitated its removal.
