A single-celled green alga Shunan Cao & Qiming Zhou, , isolated from a specimen of Antarctic lichen (Vahl) Gray, is described and illustrated based on a comprehensive investigation of morphology, ultrastructure, ecology and phylogeny. The cells of are ovoid to long ellipsoidal and measured 3-5 µm × 6-12 µm. The new species has distinct ITS rDNA and SSU rDNA sequences and differs from the phylogenetic closely related species , and in cell size, distribution and habitat.

During the study of algal diversity in pyroclastic deposits of the Kamchatka Peninsula, Chlorella-like green algae strains VCA-72 and VCA-93 were isolated from samples collected from along the Baydarnaya river bed on the Shiveluch volcano in 2018 and at the outlet of thermal vapors along the edge of the caldera on the southern slope of the Gorely volcano in 2020. Identification of the strains was carried out within the framework of an integrative approach using microscopic and molecular genetic methods, including preliminary taxon identification, obtaining nucleotide sequences of the small subunit and the internal transcribed spacer rRNA, reconstruction of phylogenetic trees and secondary structures of the ITS1 and ITS2 rRNA regions. On the phylogenetic tree, strain VCA-93 was clustered in the Micractinium thermotolerans species clade.

Snow is a unique microhabitat, despite being a harsh environment, multiple life forms have adapted to survive in it. While algae, bacteria and fungi are dominant microorganisms in Antarctic snow, little is known about other organisms that may be present in this habitat. In the present work, an investigation was performed based on the genera and species stated in Palmer pollution index to show the extent of organic pollution in the surface water of the Tawi watershed in the Jammu province of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir using algal pollution indices. Sampling was carried out for two seasons, pre-monsoon (PRM) and post-monsoon (POM), at 16 locations distributed over the entire Tawi watershed. The physico-chemical variables like water temperature, pH, electrical conductivity, TDS, total alkalinity, total hardness, DO, BOD, COD, nitrate, and phosphate were analyzed.

-like green algae that reproduce only asexually by immotile autospores or motile zoospores are the most typical inhabitants of non-aquatic environments. They have a simple morphology that hampers their differentiation, but algae of such habit represent a diverse array of lineages, which are mostly in the classes Chlorophyceae and Trebouxiophyceae. One of these lineages is the order Watanabeales ( clade; Trebouxiophyceae), which comprises 10 genera that share a distinct mode of reproduction through unequally sized autospores.
