is a major pathogen in aquaculture. It is a causative agent of the so-called "luminescent vibriosis," a life-threatening condition caused by bioluminescent spp. that often involves mass mortality of farmed shrimps. The emergence of multidrug resistant strains raises a concern and poses a challenge for the treatment of this infection in the coming years. Inhibition of bacterial cell-to-cell communication or quorum sensing (QS) has been proposed as an alternative to antibiotic therapies. Aiming to identify novel QS disruptors, the 9H-fluroen-9yl vinyl ether derivative SAM461 was found to thwart bioluminescence, a QS-regulated phenotype. Phenotypic and gene expression analyses revealed, however, that the mode of action of SAM461 was unrelated to QS inhibition. Further evaluation with purified and NanoLuc luciferases revealed enzymatic inhibition at micromolar concentrations. analysis by molecular docking suggested binding of SAM461 in the active site cavities of both luciferase enzymes. Subsequent testing of SAM461 with gnotobiotic nauplii demonstrated naupliar protection against infection at low micromolar concentrations. Taken together, these findings suggest that suppression of luciferase activity could constitute a novel paradigm in the development of alternative anti-infective chemotherapies against luminescent vibriosis, and pave the ground for the chemical synthesis and biological characterization of derivatives with promising antimicrobial prospects.

Escherichia coli expressing SrPlsAR from Selenomonas ruminantium produces plasmalogen, comprising almost 60% of the total phospholipid content under anaerobic conditions. Both plasmenylethanolamine and plasmenylglycerol were detected, and the major acyl aldehyde derived from sn-1 vinyl ether was C16:1. Plasmalogen synthesis is affected by mutations in ATP-binding sites and Cys expected to be involved in the formation of the [4Fe-4S] cluster.

Highly energetic boron (B) particles embedded in hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) thermosetting polymers represent stable solid-state fuel. Laser-heating of levitated B/HTPB and pure HTPB particles in a controlled atmosphere revealed spontaneous ignition of B/HTPB in air, allowing for examination of the exclusive roles of boron. These ignition events are probed via simultaneous spectroscopic diagnostics: Raman and infrared spectroscopy, temporally resolved high-speed optical and infrared cameras, and ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy.

Cationic polymerization of vinyl ethers to access poly(vinyl ether) polymeric materials has been challenging due to stringent polymerization conditions and inevitable chain transfer. Herein we introduce a protocol using trifluoromethyl sulfonates to catalyze the polymerization of a series of vinyl ethers. These trifluoromethyl sulfonates are fully commercially available and can be stored under ambient conditions.

The integration of fluorine into medicinal compounds has become a widely used strategy to improve the biochemical and therapeutic properties of drugs. Inclusion of -CFH and -OCF fluoroalkyl groups has garnered attention due to their bioisosteric properties, enhanced lipophilicity, and potential hydrogen-bonding capability in bioactive substances. In this study, we prepared a series of stable Cu[CF(OCF)(CFH)]L complexes by insertion of commercially available perfluoro(methyl vinyl ether), CF=CF(OCF), into Cu-H bonds derived from Stryker's reagent, [CuH(PPh)], using ancillary ligands L.

Control over stereochemistry in poly(vinyl ether)s leads to a notable change in their physical properties, yet remains a grand challenge. Here, we demonstrate the bulk stereoselective cationic polymerization of vinyl ethers using ZrCl coordinated with a spirocyclic phosphoric acid (SPA). The widely variable substituents in SPAs exert a profound impact on the stereochemical and activity outcome of the polymerization: the % m of poly(vinyl ether)s linearly increases with the Hammett substituent constant (σ) of SPAs; the catalytic activity increases with the σ; the large steric hindrance groups lead to decreased polymerization activity.
