We present new experimental results for the phase-matching properties of the recently discovered BaGaGeSe crystal for harmonic generation of a Nd:YAG laser-pumped KTP OPO and a CO laser in the 0.778-10.5910 μm spectral range. In addition, we present new Sellmeier equations that provide a good reproduction of the present experimental results as well as the published data points for SHG of a CO laser at 10.5910 μm and a 1.85 μm-pumped OPO in the 2.156-3.220 μm and 4.348-13.035 μm spectral ranges.

Generating wavelength-tunable picosecond laser pulses from an ultrafast laser source is essential for femtosecond stimulated Raman scattering (FSRS) measurements. Etalon filters produce narrowband (picosecond) pulses with an asymmetric temporal profile that is ideal for stimulated resonance Raman excitation. However, direct spectral filtering of femtosecond laser pulses is typically limited to the laser's fundamental and harmonic frequencies due to very low transmission of broad bandwidth pulses through an etalon.

KLa(BO): A KBBF-Like Nonlinear-Optical Material with a Short Cutoff Edge and a Strong Second-Harmonic-Generation Response.

Inorg Chem

December 2024

Tianjin Key Laboratory of Functional Crystal Materials, Institute of Functional Crystal, Tianjin University of Technology, Tianjin 300384, China.

Article Synopsis
  • - A new nonlinear-optical (NLO) crystal, called KLa(BO) (KLBO), has been developed to improve the performance of solid-state lasers in the deep-ultraviolet (DUV) region, addressing the limitations of the currently available KBeBOF (KBBF) due to its toxic ingredients and growth issues.
  • - KLBO is synthesized by substituting beryllium with rare-earth element lanthanum and features a unique three-dimensional structure that provides superior NLO properties, including an impressive response for second-harmonic generation and a UV-cutoff edge below 190 nm.
  • - The enhanced nonlinear optical performance of KLBO results from its distinct structural composition, particularly the [BO

Lithium niobate on insulator - fundamental opto-electronic properties and photonic device prospects.

Nanophotonics

July 2024

State Key Laboratory of Precision Spectroscopy, School of Physics and Electronic Science, East China Normal University, Shanghai 200241, China.

Lithium niobate on insulator (LNOI) combines a variety of optoelectronic properties and can meet practical performance requirements that are uncommon in optoelectronic materials. This review introduces the fundamentals and the photonic device concepts that arise from the LNOI materials platform. Firstly, the nonlinear optical response of LNOI is presented, including birefringent phase matching (BPM), modal phase matching (MPM), and quasi-phase matching (QPM).

Article Synopsis
  • This paper explores silver gallium selenide (AGSe) as a better option than silver gallium sulfide (AGS) for detecting infrared signals beyond 10 µm, particularly in the 10 to 20 µm range.
  • AGSe has a wider transparency range up to approximately 20 µm, while AGS has limitations due to high absorption beyond 12 µm.
  • Experimental comparisons show that AGSe achieves higher upconversion efficiency and better phase matching, making it a strong candidate for long-wavelength infrared detection applications.
