Published: December 2018

In this document we present the differences in the Zeta potential and in the Infrared spectra data obtained from the characterization of silanized titanium dioxide particles, using two different solvents as reaction media: ethanol and toluene. Also, we provide micrographs of transmission electron microscopy in order to show morphological differences between the analyzed samples.

One-Step Fabrication Process of Silica-Titania Superhydrophobic UV-Blocking Thin Coatings onto Polymeric Films.

Biomimetics (Basel)

Department of Chemistry, Institute of Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials, Bar-Ilan University, Ramat-Gan 5290002, Israel.

Developing a durable multifunctional superhydrophobic coating on polymeric films that can be industrially scalable is a challenge in the field of surface engineering. This article presents a novel method for a scalable technology using a simple single-step fabrication of a superhydrophobic coating on polymeric films that exhibits excellent water-repelling and UV-blocking properties, along with impressive wear resistance and chemical robustness. A mixture of titanium precursors, tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS), hydrophobic silanes and silica nano/micro-particles is polymerized directly on a corona-treated polymeric film which reacts with the surface via siloxane chemistry.

Purpose: This study assesses the impact of Cold Atmospheric Pressure Plasma (CAP) pretreatment on the bond strength of two-piece hybrid ceramic abutment crowns in implant dentistry. The objective is to ascertain whether CAP can be employed as an alternative or complementary technique to conventional methods.

Methods: 80 titanium bases and 80 VITA ENAMIC polymer-infiltrated ceramic network (PICN) crowns were divided into 8 groups (n = 10) based on different surface pretreatments of the crowns before cementation: no treatment (A), hydrofluoric acid (HF) (B), HF and silane (C), silane (D), CAP (AP), HF and CAP (BP), HF, CAP, and silane (CP), and CAP and silane (DP).

Preliminary Aspects Regarding the Anticorrosive Effect of Multi-Layered Silane-Hydroxyapatite Coatings Deposited on Titanium Grade 2 for Medical Applications.

Materials (Basel)

December 2024

Department of Material Engineering, Faculty of Production Engineering and Materials Technology, Czestochowa University of Technology, Aleja Armii Krajowej 19, 42-200 Czestochowa, Poland.

This paper presents a method for producing VTMS/HAp/VTMS/VTMS multilayer coatings on a Grade 2 titanium substrate and characterizes their structure and functional properties. Two solutions were used to produce the coatings: one based on vinyltrimethoxysilane (VTMS) and the other on hydroxyapatite (HAp) powder. The coatings were applied using immersion using the sol-gel method.

Osseointegration of Implants Through Ti Biofunctionalization with Biomass from UTEX 1230 and sp. PCC 7002.

December 2024

Biomedical Engineering Department, Universidad Simón Bolívar, Barranquilla 080002, Colombia.

The inadequate osseointegration of titanium implants remains a significant challenge in orthopedics, limiting the long-term efficacy of prostheses and medical devices. It has been determined that biological aging of the titanium surface compromises the implant-bone tissue interaction due to increased hydrophobicity and accumulation of organic molecules. To address this issue, an innovative strategy has been proposed: the biofunctionalization of Ti6Al4V surfaces utilizing biomass derived from UTEX 1230 and sp.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines the impact of adding zinc oxide (ZnO) and titanium dioxide (TiO) nanoparticles to denture base resin on its surface hardness and flexural strength during chewing and occlusal loading.
  • Five groups of acrylic resin samples were created, with one group being a control and the others containing different concentrations of nanoparticles, and their properties were tested using specific machinery.
  • Results showed that the modified denture resins had significantly improved properties, with the highest surface hardness from 1% TiO and the best flexural strength from 1% ZnO, indicating better durability compared to conventional resins.
