Transcriptome analysis reveals the different toxic mechanism of three HBCD diastereoisomers to Brachionus plicatilis based on chemical defensome.

J Hazard Mater

January 2025

Department of Marine Ecology, College of Marine Life Sciences, Ocean University of China, No.5 Yushan Road, Qingdao, China; Laboratory for Marine Ecology and Environmental Science, Qingdao Marine Science and Technology Center, Qingdao, China. Electronic address:

The emerging contaminants hexabromocyclododecanes (HBCDs) are proved to exhibit highly reproductive toxicity to marine rotifer Brachionus plicatilis, but how about the toxic differentiation among three diastereoisomers of HBCD, and what's the possible hidden mechanism? B. plicatilis was exposed to different concentrations of HBCD diastereoisomers, and the results showed that α-, β- and γ-HBCD exhibited various toxicity on it, the adverse effects on individual life history traits included shortened lifespan, shortened body length and reduced offspring number. Population dynamics analysis showed that the maximum population density and time to reach it were also significantly influenced.

Low-temperature catalytic oxidation of ethanol over doped nickel phosphates.

Environ Sci Pollut Res Int

January 2025

Laboratory of Coordination and Analytical Chemistry (LCCA), Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Sciences, Chouaïb Doukkali University, Ben Maachou Road, B.P: 20, 24000, El Jadida, Morocco.

This work is focused on the synthesis and performance of Ni(PO)-based catalysts doped with Cu, Co, Mn, Ce, Zr, and Mg for the complete oxidation of ethanol, aiming at reducing emissions from ethanol-blended gasoline. Nickel phosphate was prepared via the co-precipitation method, followed by impregnation with the specified dopants. The catalysts were thoroughly characterized by XRD, N-physisorption, XRF, FTIR and Raman spectroscopy, FESEM, NH-TPD, CO-TPD, and H-TPR to explain their performance.

Probiotics in reducing obesity by reconfiguring the gut microbiota.

Zhong Nan Da Xue Xue Bao Yi Xue Ban

July 2024

Department of Endocrinology, First Affiliated Hospital of Baotou Medical College, Baotou Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region 014010, China.

Obesity, as a global health crisis, is increasingly linked to intestinal microecology. Probiotics colonise the body, effectively regulating the balance of intestinal flora, while strengthening the intestinal barrier, activating the immune response, releasing beneficial substances, and maintaining micro-ecological balance. This process not only enhances the defence against pathogens, but also reduces the production of inflammatory factors and lowers the level of chronic inflammation.

What's the Matter? Alcohol Use Risk Among Relatives of People with Mental Illness.

Int J Environ Res Public Health

December 2024

Department of Psychology, York University, Toronto, ON M3J 1P3, Canada.

Family members who live with relatives with serious mental illness face unique mental health risks, which become worse with alcohol use and without social support. Research has highlighted the damaging effects of harmful substance use among people who feel like they do not matter to others, but few studies have assessed links between mattering and alcohol use within marginalized populations. In the present study, a sample of family members who reside with a relative with mental illness completed an online survey.

Background: The Fundamentals of Care framework emphasizes a patient-centered approach that prioritizes the nurse-patient relationship and care environment to meet patients' basic needs, including oral hygiene. Recognized as crucial for preventing systemic health problems, oral care neglect is a global concern. Studies identify missed oral care as a widespread issue, contributing to significant patient safety risks.
