Objective: To report the results of endoscopic ultrasound-guided injection of coils with cyanoacrylate (CYA) using a less-expensive coil with an emphasis on the roles of Doppler and endosonographic varicealography (EV) in identifying the feeder vessel in gastric varix treatment.
Methods: An observational, descriptive study with prospectively collected data. Patients with gastric varices (GV) were included and were treated by endoscopic ultrasound-guided injection of CYA and a less-expensive coil. Technical success, complete and immediate variceal obliteration, rebleeding, complication and survival rates were evaluated.
Results: Thirty patients with GV with a mean age of 62 years (range: 44-76 years) were treated. Median number of coils used was 2 (range: 1-3), and median volume of CYA was 1.8 mL (1.2-2.4 mL). Technical success rate was 100%. EV technical success was observed in 26/30 patients. Complete variceal obliteration was observed in 96.6% of patients, and immediate disappearance of the varix was observed in 24 (80%) patients. The complication rate was 6.7%.
Conclusions: Endoscopic-ultrasound guidance for gastric varix treatment with the addition of EV and the use of a less-expensive coil is a safe and effective technique that results in the immediate disappearance of GV after targeting the feeding vessel.

H magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging has been shown recently to be a viable technique for metabolic imaging in the clinic. We show here that H MR spectroscopy and spectroscopic imaging measurements of [2,3-H]malate production from [2,3-H]fumarate can be used to detect tumor cell death in vivo via the production of labeled malate. Production of [2,3-H]malate, following injection of [2,3-H]fumarate (1 g/kg) into tumor-bearing mice, was measured in a murine lymphoma (EL4) treated with etoposide, and in human breast (MDA-MB-231) and colorectal (Colo205) xenografts treated with a TRAILR2 agonist, using surface-coil localized H MR spectroscopy at 7 T.

Integration of point-of-care assays can be facilitated with the use of actuated magnetic beads (MB) to perform testing in less expensive settings to enable the delivery of cost-effective care. In this paper we present six different designs of planar microelectromagnets traps (MEMT) with four external coils in series and one central coil connected for an opposite direction of manipulation of MB in microfluidic flows. The development of a simulation tool facilitated the rapid and efficient optimization of designs by presenting the influence of system variables on real time concentrations of MB.

Four-dimensional arterial spin labeling magnetic resonance angiography (4D ASL MRA) is a non-invasive medical imaging modality that can be used for anatomical and hemodynamic analysis of the cerebrovascular system. However, it generates a considerable amount of data, which is tedious to analyze visually.
