Until recently, the reference equations available for pulmonary function tests (PFTs) have had several weaknesses: they have often been based on relatively weak samples of normal subjects; they used mathematical models that are not very efficient in describing the evolution of PFTs over age; there were different equations for children/adolescents and for adults; the expression of the results solely as a percentage of the predicted value did not provide a good indication of the statistical significance of any difference that may exist between a measured value and its reference value. The Global Lung Initiative (GLI) aimed to establish new reference equations for PFTs that do not have these disadvantages. Based on large, representative, reference populations and allowing individualization of homogeneous ethnic groups over a wide age range, the GLI uses a statistical model that does not have any a priori hypothesis regarding the evolution of PFTs as a function of age (these models therefore make it possible to describe, in a very precise manner, the PFTs over all age ranges). For a given PFT, the equation is the same regardless of age (no discontinuity on transition to adulthood). The GLI equations are used to define a reference value, a threshold value (lower limit of the normal) and a z-score that take into account age, sex, size and, for some PFTs, ethnicity. The reference equations of the GLI were established in 2012 for spirometry, in 2017 for the TLCO and will soon be established for lung volumes. Already the representation of ethnic groups not identified by the GLI and of subjects with extreme values of age and size is being questioned.

A key contribution to X-ray dark-field (XDF) contrast is the diffusion of X-rays by sample structures smaller than the imaging system's spatial resolution; this is related to position-dependent small-angle X-ray scattering. However, some experimental XDF techniques have reported that XDF contrast is also generated by resolvable sample edges. Speckle-based X-ray imaging (SBXI) extracts the XDF by analyzing sample-imposed changes to a reference speckle pattern's visibility.

Utilizing the periodic pixel configuration of the CCD/CMOS imaging sensor as the reference grating and the image of the real grating formed by the lens as the specimen grating, the CCD Moiré method directly outputs amplified Moiré fringes, facilitating high-resolution, full-field deformation measurement. Due to the amplification effect of CCD Moiré, even minor relative rotations of the two gratings can significantly affect Moiré imaging and introduce measurable errors. This paper mainly addresses the imaging and measurement challenges of in-plane rotation in the CCD Moiré method.

We present the subcycle spectral structures from attosecond transient absorption spectra of helium by accurately solving the full three-dimensional time-dependent Schrödinger equation in extreme ultraviolet attosecond pulse and an orthogonally polarized infrared (IR) laser field. We discover that the subcycle spectral features associated with the dressed 1 ( ≥ 4) states and light-induced states, referred to as , , and , can be strongly modified or even enhanced when the strength ratio of the orthogonal laser field in two polarized laser directions changes. To understand the spectral evolution of the subcycle structures, we perform calculations of the time-dependent population and time-frequency analysis.

The aim of this study was to assess the effect of nutrition education and counseling using health belief health model constructs along with iron-folic acid supplementation on hemoglobin level and adherence to IFAs during pregnancy. The study was a three-month quasi-experimental study design in Butajira town, Ethiopia. Community-based nutrition education and counseling sessions using the Health belief model, and IFAS for six weeks were given to the pregnant women.

Introduction: Pregnancy induces a hypercoagulable state, characterized by increased coagulation factors and decreased anticoagulants, alongside ongoing fibrinolysis marked by elevated D-dimer (DD) levels. Reference values for DD in pregnancy often exceed the non-pregnant cutoff due to these changes. Elevated DD levels are common in late pregnancy and may correlate with complications such as gestational diabetes, hypertension, and preterm delivery, particularly in cases of preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM).
