Endothelium has both a protective and a very complex para-, endo- and autocrine functions. Vascular tone is determined as a balance between the production of vasodilating and vasoconstrictive substances. Among the most important vasodilators are nitric oxide (NO), PGI2, endothelial-derived hyperpolarizing factor (EDHF), adenosine and others, among the most important vasoconstrictors, endothelin-1 and angiotensin-2. Therapeutic goal of improving endothelial secretory function should be maximizing production of vasodilators and minimizing production of vasoconstrictors. Improvement of endothelial function can be achieved most effectively by following a healthy lifestyle (changing the diet to a Mediterranean type, sufficient physical activity, weight reduction and smoking cessation) and by initiating the treatment with ACE inhibitors and statins, when indicated. Large number of trials have shown that all of these interventions improve the prognosis of patients and a part of this effect may be mediated by improving endothelial dysfunction. Diabetic wounds are complicated by underlying peripheral vasculopathy. Reliance on vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy to improve perfusion makes logical sense, yet clinical study outcomes on rescuing diabetic wound vascularization have yielded disappointing results. Our previous work has identified that low endothelial phospholipase Cγ2 (PLCγ2) expression hinders the therapeutic effect of VEGF on the diabetic ischemic limb.

Background: Myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury and coronary microcirculation dysfunction (CMD) are observed in patients with myocardial infarction after vascular recanalization. The antianginal drug trimetazidine has been demonstrated to exert a protective effect in myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury.
Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the role of trimetazidine in endothelial cell dysfunction caused by myocardial I/R injury and thus improve coronary microcirculation.

Background/objectives: The visual acuity (VA) outcomes after the first and second years of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) treatment in patients with diabetic macular oedema (DMO) were evaluated, and the factors associated with treatment success were investigated.
Methods: Using Medisoft electronic medical records (UK), this retrospective cohort study analysed VA outcomes, changes, and determinants in DMO patients at year 1 and year 2 after initial anti-VEGF injection. Descriptive analysis examined baseline demographics and clinical characteristics, while regression models were used to assess associations between these factors and changes in VA.

Novel ferrite/polyurethane nanocomposites were synthesized using the in situ polymerization method after the addition of different spinel nanoferrite particles (copper, zinc, and copper-zinc) and examined as potential coatings for medical devices and implants in vascular tissue engineering. The influence of the nanoferrite type on the structure and functional characteristics of the polyurethane composites was investigated by FTIR, SWAXS, AFM, TGA, DSC, nanoindentation, swelling behavior, water contact angle, and water absorption measurements. Biocompatibility was evaluated by examining the cytotoxicity and adhesion of human endothelial cells and fibroblasts onto prepared composites and performing a protein adsorption test.
