Toxicology and Clinical Analysis Department, Pharmacy College, Dentistry and Nursing, Federal University of Ceará, Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • - This scoping review examined 29 studies from 2013 to 2023 on imaging techniques related to the upper urinary tract, revealing that the intrarenal pelvis may predict urinary loss post-surgery and underscoring the need for thorough anatomical evaluations.
  • - The research categorized Brödel's avascular plane into three types for better surgical planning and noted variations in renal arteries and veins, such as retro-aortic and circum-aortic structures, which are crucial for understanding kidney anatomy.
  • - The study calls for standardized terminology for anatomical descriptions to improve teaching and eliminate confusion in research, highlighting how advanced imaging has improved the accuracy of human anatomy knowledge and fostered medical advancements.

Purpose: Recently, the needs for supine percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) have become more increased because of an easy approach for endoscopic combined intrarenal surgery. However, making a nephrostomy tract during supine PCNL is more difficult than prone position due to movable kidney. To overcome this limitation, we used a modified nephrostomy tract dilation (MTD) technique using guidewire traction.

The basic treatment for retroperitoneal liposarcoma is surgical therapy. Since the administration of trabectedin for soft tissue sarcoma has been approved, another option for soft tissue sarcoma treatment has been added. We report a case of radical resection after trabectedin therapy for initially unresectable retroperitoneal liposarcoma.

Prior studies demonstrate poor agreement among pathologists' interpretation of kidney biopsy slides. Reliability of representative images of these slides uploaded to the United Network of Organ Sharing (UNOS) web portal for clinician review has not been studied. We hypothesized high agreement among pathologists' image interpretation, since static images eliminate variation induced by viewing different areas of movable slides.
