Alloying plays a central role in tailoring the material properties of 2D transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs). However, despite widespread reports, the details of the alloying mechanism in 2D TMDs have remained largely unknown and are yet to be further explored. Here, we combine a set of systematic experiments with ab initio density functional theory (DFT) calculations to unravel a defect-mediated mechanism for the alloying of monolayer TMD crystals. In our alloying approach, a monolayer MoSe film serves as a host crystal in which exchanging selenium (Se) atoms with sulfur (S) atoms yields a MoSSe alloy. Our study reveals that the driving force required for the alloying of CVD-grown films with abundant vacancy-type defects is significantly lower than that required for the alloying of exfoliated films with fewer vacancies. Indeed, we show that pre-existing Se vacancies in the host MoSe lattice mediate the replacement of chalcogen atoms and facilitate the synthesis of MoSSe alloys. Our DFT calculations suggest that S atoms can bind to Se vacancies and then diffuse throughout the host MoSe lattice via exchanging the position with Se vacancies, further supporting our proposed defect-mediated alloying mechanism. Beside native vacancy defects, we show that the existence of large-scale defects in CVD-grown MoSe films causes the fracture of alloys under the alloying-induced strain, while no such effect is observed in exfoliated MoSe films. Our study provides a deep insight into the details of the alloying mechanism and enables the synthesis of 2D alloys with tunable properties.

The chemical corrosion of the TC4 radiation rod surface (TRRS) during the ultrasonic casting process has the potential to significantly impair the smooth conduction of ultrasonic waves. However, in the later stages of corrosion, a self-protected structure (TSPS) emerges under the ultrasonic cavitation effect, which serves to impede the chemical corrosion of the TRRS and markedly reduce the rate of mass loss of the radiation rod. This ensures the smooth ultrasonic conduction of the radiation rod during operation.

The design and fabrication of nanocatalysts with high accessibility and sintering resistance remain significant challenges in heterogeneous electrocatalysis. Herein, a novel catalyst is introduced that combines electronic pumping with alloy crystal facet engineering. At the nanoscale, the electronic pump leverages the chemical potential difference to drive electron migration from one region to another, separating and transferring electron-hole pairs.

Taking the titanium alloy wing-body connection joint at the rear beam of a certain type of aircraft as the research object, this study analyzed the failure mechanism and verified the structural safety of the wing-body connection joint under actual flight loads. Firstly, this study verified the validity of the loading system and the measuring system in the test system through the pre-test, and the repeatability of the test was analyzed for error to ensure the accuracy of the experimental data. Then, the test piece was subjected to 400,000 random load tests of flight takeoffs and landings, 100,000 Class A load tests, and ground-air-ground load tests, and the test piece fractured under the ground-air-ground load tests.

To avoid wear and tear of the slip ring due to electrical corrosion, the slip ring needs to undergo the running-in process under atmospheric conditions without current after assembly. To address the urgent demand for long-service capability space conductive slip rings in the aerospace field, the running-in behavior and failure mechanism between the AgCuNi alloy and Au-electroplated layer are investigated using a ball-on-disc tribometer in this paper. The results show that the transfer film composed of Au plays an important role in modifying the friction during the sliding process.

This study presents a comparative analysis of the influence of Ce-Gd and Gd-Y additions on the microstructural evolution, mechanical properties, and electrochemical behavior of extruded Mg-3Zn-Mn-Ca alloy rods. Despite the frequent incorporation of Gd, Y, and Ce as alloying elements in magnesium alloys, the systematic examination of their combined effects on Mg-Zn alloys has been limited. Our findings reveal that both Gd-Ce and Gd-Y additions significantly enhance the mechanical properties of Mg-3Zn-Mn-Ca alloy, although through differing mechanisms.
