Originally developed for use in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors demonstrated diverse cardiovascular- and kidney-protective effects in large outcome trials. Although no deaths occurred in the original large clinical trial, we analyzed 10 serious adverse events, including six deaths that have subsequently occurred in four countries.
