Background: The expansion of digital devices and widespread access to the Internet has opened up opportunities to provide patients with more personal information. It can be hypothesized that eHealth in addition to standard care could enhance clinical outcomes such as increased weight loss, co-morbidity reduction, and commitment to the program. The beneficial value of incorporating eHealth applications as standard postoperative care is yet to be established. In this trial, the value of different levels of eHealth are assessed.
Methods/design: Two hundred adult patients with a body mass index (BMI) ≥ 40 kg/m, or ≥ 35 kg/m with obesity-related co-morbidity, undergoing sleeve gastrectomy or gastric bypass will be enrolled in this randomized controlled trial. Patients will be randomly assigned to one of the groups: receiving standard care (control group, n = 100); have access to an online eHealth platform in addition to the previous group (online group, n = 50); or receive wireless monitoring devices in addition to previous groups (device group, n = 50). The total follow-up period is two years postoperatively. Primary outcome is weight loss in terms of BMI. Secondary outcomes include: quality of life; return-to-work time; co-morbidity reduction; additional contacts; and ease of use of devices.
Discussion: In this trial, the value of different levels of eHealth will be assessed. This addresses an important aspect of a changing healthcare environment.

Weight loss and decreased appetite are commonly encountered sequela of disease and stress in avian patients. However, there is currently minimal information in the veterinary literature regarding appetite stimulation in birds. Capromorelin is a potent agonist of the growth hormone secretagogue receptor and increases food consumption via direct stimulation of the hunger centers of the hypothalamus.

Introduction: The phase 3 randomized controlled trial of extended pleurectomy decortication and chemotherapy versus chemotherapy alone for pleural mesothelioma (PM) (MARS2) reported "extended pleurectomy decortication was associated with worse survival to 2 years, and more serious adverse events for individuals with resectable PM, compared with chemotherapy alone." These results have led to considerable discourse regarding the future role of surgery for PM, and there has not been unanimity in the mesothelioma surgical community regarding the trial interpretation. This "perspective" evaluates MARS2 using internationally renowned PM experts who either agreed with the trial interpretation or who found issues with its conduct which may have influenced the results.

Objectives: Biphasic sinusoidal repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a noninvasive brain stimulation treatment that has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for treatment-resistant depression (TRD). Recent advances suggest that standard rTMS may be improved by altering the pulse shape; however, there is a paucity of research investigating pulse shape, owing primarily to the technologic limitations of currently available devices. This pilot study examined the feasibility, tolerability, and preliminary efficacy of biphasic and monophasic rectangular rTMS for TRD.
