Aim: This study aimed to explore the molecular mechanism of severe asthma.
Materials & Methods: The shared and divergent differentially expressed mRNAs (DEmRNAs), miRNAs (DEmiRNAs) and lncRNAs (DElncRNAs) in asthma and severe asthma were identified by RNA-sequencing. Severe asthma-specific and shared DEmiRNA-DEmRNA-DElncRNA interaction networks were performed.
Results: Compared with normal control, 1328 DEmRNAs, 608 DElncRNAs and 63 DEmiRNAs were identified in severe asthma. Compared with asthma, 95 DEmRNAs, 143 DElncRNAs and 96 DEmiRNAs were identified in severe asthma. MiR-133a-3p-EFHD2/CNN2-AC144831.1 interactions and miR-3613-3p-CD44/BCL11B-LINC00158/CTA-217C2.1/AC010976.2/RP11-641A6.2 interactions were speculated to involve with the development of severe asthma. The results of GSE69683 validation were generally consistent with our RNA-sequencing results.
Conclusion: This study provides clues for understanding the mechanism of severe asthma.

Allergic reactions to foods are primarily driven by allergen-binding immunoglobulin (Ig)E antibodies. IgE-expressing cells can be generated through direct switching from IgM to IgE or a sequential class switching pathway where activated B cells first switch to an intermediary isotype, most frequently IgG1, and then to IgE. It has been proposed that sequential class switch recombination is involved in augmenting the severity of allergic reactions, generating high affinity IgE, differentiation of IgE plasma cells, and in holding the memory of IgE responses.

Patients with selective IgA deficiency could have various clinical presentations ranging from asymptomatic to severe respiratory or gastrointestinal tract infection, as well as autoimmune disease and allergic reactions. Selective IgA deficiency is relatively common in Caucasians, but it is rare in the Asian population, meaning it could be easily missed in the clinic. In this study, we report a 26-year-old man with a history of asthma and nephrotic syndrome.

Background: Extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma, nasal type (ENKTCL-NT) is a rare, highly invasive Epstein-Barr virus associated hematological malignant tumor with an unfavorable prognosis. Although ENKTCL-NT has been previously reported, no relevant article has provided an intuitive, progressive series of schematic illustrations of the rapid progression of facial ulcers.
Objective: This article reports a serious case of ENKTCL-NT that involved the entire process from onset to death.

Purpose: Although periostin has recently emerged as a new mediator in chronic allergic diseases, particularly in upper airway disease, its significance as a biomarker for allergic rhinitis (AR) is still unclear. Therefore, we aimed to assess the potential of periostin as a novel candidate biomarker for diagnosing and assessing the severity of AR.
Patients And Methods: A total of 40 patients with AR and 22 healthy controls, all aged over 18 years, were recruited for the study.

Introduction: Expert management of Complex Obstructive Airway Diseases (COAD) requires knowledge, resources and skills that are commonly shared in the management of the different conditions usually included in the acronym, namely asthma, bronchiectasis and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). We discuss the basis to shift the paradigm of single-disease management into a holistic approach and describe its potential benefits.
Areas Covered: The prevalence and significance of the overlap between the different conditions is reviewed.
