To describe the implementation and evaluation of population health management learning activities in a second-year Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) course. Population health learning sessions were implemented in a step-wise manner: population needs assessment activity to identify priority programs for implementation given a specific patient population; didactic materials to introduce program evaluation foundational knowledge; program evaluation design activity to evaluate implemented programs using the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Program Evaluation Framework; and evaluation of program outcome data. Students' self-rated abilities (grouped into Bloom's Taxonomy classifications) and perceptions before and after program evaluation activities were assessed. Qualitative analyses evaluated student feedback on learning sessions. Students' self-rated abilities for all Bloom's classifications increased after the learning sessions. Student perceptions on importance of program evaluation also improved (from 71% reporting "agree" or "strongly agree" pre-activities to 79% post-activities). Students found the application to case scenarios and the opportunity to integrate each component of program evaluation into a complete process useful. Step-wise population health management learning sessions were implemented, culminating in skill-based program evaluation activities. The activities improved students' self-rated abilities and perceptions regarding program evaluation. Areas for improvement for the learning sessions were also identified and will inform future instructional design.

Background: Doulas, non-clinical professionals who provide support throughout the perinatal period, can positively impact patient experiences and clinical outcomes during birth. Doulas often support hospital-based births without being employed by the hospital system, resulting in varied relationships with hospitals and clinicians. Systems-level changes are needed to maximize collaboration between hospitals and doulas to ensure facilitation of, and not barriers to, doula support.

A case of subcutaneous metastatic malignant melanoma of the left medial ankle: a case report and review of literature.

Background: Although rare, melanoma confined to the dermis or subcutaneous tissue without evidence of a primary cutaneous site should provoke consideration of melanoma of unknown primary. This diagnosis carries a favorable prognosis when compared with cutaneous metastatic melanoma. Several hypotheses have been proposed for how melanoma of unknown primary develops, two of which were considered in our patient case: (1) spontaneous regression of the primary tumor following metastasis or (2) the traumatic implantation of ectopic melanocytic cells in other tissues, such as the subcutaneous tissue.

Monitoring deep wounds is challenging but necessary for high-quality medical treatment. Current methodologies for deep wound monitoring are typically limited to indirect clinical symptoms or costly non-real-time imaging diagnosis. Herein, a smart system is proposed that enables in situ monitoring of deep wounds' status through a semi-implantable device composed of 2 seamlessly connected functional components: 1) the well-designed, microchannel-structured sampling needles that efficiently and conveniently collect samples from deep wound anatomical locations, and 2) the multiplex biochemical testing compartment that facilitates the immediate and persistent detection of multiple biochemical indicators based on a color image processing software accessible to a conventional smartphone.

Breeders adjust wheat heading dates to improve regional adaptability and reduce or mitigate yield losses caused by meteorological disasters, pests and diseases. The Ppd-1 genes play a crucial role in determining wheat sensitivity to changes in day-length and serve as key regulators of heading dates once the vernalization requirement is satisfied. In this study, we identified a new allelic variant of the promoter region, Ppd-B1a.
