Hybrid micro-machining, which integrates several micro-manufacturing processes on one platform, has emerged as a solution to utilize the so-called "1 + 1 = 3" effect to tackle the manufacturing challenges for high value-added 3D micro-products. Hybrid micro-machines tend to integrate multiple functional modules from different vendors for the best value and performance. However, the lack of plug-and-play solutions leads to tremendous difficulty in system integration. This paper proposes a novel three-layer control architecture for the first time for the system integration of hybrid micro-machines. The interaction of hardware is encapsulated into software components, while the data flow among different components is standardized. The proposed control architecture enhances the flexibility of the computer numerical control (CNC) system to accommodate a broad range of functional modules. The component design also improves the scalability and maintainability of the whole system. The effectiveness of the proposed control architecture has been successfully verified through the integration of a six-axis hybrid micro-machine. Thus, it provides invaluable guidelines for the development of next-generation CNC systems for hybrid micro-machines.

The degree to which evolution repeats itself has implications regarding the major forces driving evolution and the potential for evolutionary biology to be a predictive (versus solely historical) science. To understand the factors that control evolutionary repeatability, we experimentally evolved four replicate hybrid populations of sunflowers at natural sites for up to 14 years and tracked ancestry across the genome. We found that there was very strong negative selection against introgressed ancestry in several chromosomes, but positive selection for introgressed ancestry in one chromosome.

The diversion tunnel is frequently subjected to cyclic dynamic loads during blasting and mechanical excavation. To explore the theory and mechanism of cyclic dynamic mechanical damage for granite in a diversion tunnel under cyclic loading-unloading, the incremental cyclic loading-unloading test and numerical simulation were conducted on granite samples from the diversion tunnel. According to the mechanical and deformation characteristics of rock samples in the process of cyclic loading-unloading, the stress-strain normalization theory evolution model based on viscoelastoplasticity was established, and the cyclic dynamic damage evolution mechanism of rock samples was revealed.

Bottlebrush block copolymers (BBCPs) are a unique class of materials that contain a backbone with densely grafted and chemically distinct polymeric side chains. The nonlinear architecture of BBCPs provides numerous degrees of freedom in their preparation, including control over key parameters such as grafting density, side chain length, block arrangement, and overall molecular weight. This uniquely branched structure provides BBCPs with several important distinctions from their linear counterparts, including sterically induced side chain and backbone conformations, rapid and large self-assembled nanostructures, and reduced or eliminated entanglement effects (assuming sufficient grafting density and that the molecular weight of the side chains is below their respective entanglement molecular weight).

The diffusion of heavy metal pollutants in polluted industrial areas can cause severe environmental pollution in surrounding areas. However, the migration of pollutants into groundwater is a complex process that requires consideration of local geological and hydrological conditions, solute transport, and geochemistry factors to better predict the flow paths and plume dispersion of pollutants. This study is based on numerical models of Darcy's law and the Richards equation.
