In this biomechanical study, the strength of five different fixation techniques -anterior tension band wiring with K-wires, separate vertical wiring, headless compression screws with anterior tension band wiring, cannulated screws with tension band wiring and memory shape patellar fixator- for distal patellar fractures were compared. Forty calf knees were used for the biomechanical testing. Each specimen was pre-loaded with 10 N at 1 N/s. The distraction forces were applied consistently with the velocity of 5 mm/s. The ultimate load (N) and displacement (mm) values were recorded. The headless compression screw with anterior tension band wiring (656.9±167.9 N) and the cannulated screws with anterior tension band wiring (642.6±166.0 N) obtained significantly higher ultimate loading values compared to the other fixation methods (p<0.05). Fixation via cannulated screws with anterior tension band wiring techniques are more stabile than the patellar shape memory fixator and anterior K wire fixation.

The traditional standard of care, tension band wire fixation modalities commonly used to treat non-comminuted olecranon fractures, are frequently associated with complications, with symptomatic hardware being the most common issue, often necessitating subsequent surgical procedures for hardware removal. We present a case of a young, active gentleman who sustained a simple olecranon fracture (Mayo type IIA) and underwent open reduction with the innovative all-suture non-metallic internal fixation procedure. We used a low-profile, cost-effective alternative fracture fixation technique, following the principles of pre-existing surgical techniques, while utilizing FiberWire sutures with biomechanical properties equivalent to, or possibly superior to, conventionally used metallic wires, thereby eliminating the need for additional surgical intervention.

We investigated the temperature dependence of the intermolecular dynamics, including intermolecular vibrations and collective orientational relaxation, of one of the most typical deep eutectic solvents, reline, using femtosecond Raman-induced Kerr effect spectroscopy (fs-RIKES), subpicosecond optical Kerr effect spectroscopy (ps-OKES), and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. According to fs-RIKES results, the temperature-dependent intermolecular vibrational band peak at ∼90 cm exhibited a redshift with increasing temperature. The density-of-state (DOS) spectrum of reline by MD simulations reproduced this fs-RIKES spectral feature.
