Objectives: To assess microvascular reactivity and glycemic parameters in GDM compared to age and GA matched controls.

Methods: This study involved 21 GDM patients and 31 controls. Microvascular reactivity was assessed using LDF and PORH. Microvascular parameters; PORH , PORH , and time to peak perfusion (Tp) were recorded after the release of 3 minutes' upper arm occlusion. HOMA-IR was performed to evaluate insulin resistance.

Results: Average age and GA for subjects were 32.9 years and 29.2 weeks. Mean FBG and a 2-hour postprandial for GDM and controls were 4.87 ± 0.71 vs 3.99 ± 0.59 mmol/L; P < 0.001 and 9.50 ± 1.8 vs 5.67 ± 1.0 mmol/L; P < 0.001. Fasting insulin (13.88 ± 18.9 vs 8.37 ± 11.0 μLU/mL; P = 0.031) and HOMA-IR (3.14 ± 4.6 vs 1.52 ± 2.2; P = 0.004) were higher in GDM. Tp was prolonged in GDM (16.27 ± 4.3 vs 13.86 ± 2.1 seconds; P = 0.011). Positive correlations were seen between Tp and FBG and 2-hour postprandial levels.

Conclusion: Tp was prolonged in GDM compared to age-matched controls, indicating impaired microvascular reactivity.

Raynaud's phenomenon (RP) is a vascular disease characterized by exaggerated vasoconstriction in response to stressors, mainly cold and emotional stress. This vasoconstriction is mediated solely by alpha 2C-adrenoceptors (α-AR) expressed in vascular smooth muscle cells of dermal arterioles. Several factors, among which is cigarette smoking, are associated with aggravated symptoms of and increased risk for RP.

Article Synopsis
  • Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by various pathological features including amyloid-β deposition and tau hyperphosphorylation, with cerebral microvascular dysfunction likely playing a role in its progression.
  • Researchers investigated the microvascular responses and potassium channel activity in an AD mouse model induced by streptozotocin (STZ), using behavioral tests and cellular assays.
  • The study found that STZ-AD mice showed poorer performance on behavioral tests and had impaired microvascular responses, which were further deteriorated by exposure to soluble Aβ, indicating a potential link between microvascular dysfunction and AD pathology.

Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Physical Activity and Health Promotion, Guangzhou Sport University, Guangzhou, Guangdong, CHINA.

Purpose: The present study aimed to compare the impacts of different exercise types on cardiovascular health and executive function in sedentary young individuals, and to determine the associations between cardiovascular function and executive function (EF) after exercise.

Methods: Sixty-three sedentary participants were randomly divided into high-intensity interval training (HIIT), moderate-intensity continuous training (MICT), resistance exercise (RE), and control groups. Macro- and microvascular endothelial function were assessed using brachial artery flow-mediated dilation and fingertip reactive hyperemia index, respectively.

Systemic and Cardiac Microvascular Dysfunction in Hypertension.

Hypertension exerts a profound impact on the microcirculation, causing both structural and functional alterations that contribute to systemic and organ-specific vascular damage. The microcirculation, comprising arterioles, capillaries, and venules with diameters smaller than 20 μm, plays a fundamental role in oxygen delivery, nutrient exchange, and maintaining tissue homeostasis. In the context of hypertension, microvascular remodeling and rarefaction result in reduced vessel density and elasticity, increasing vascular resistance and driving end-organ damage.
