The presence of cells within meningioma (MG) that express embryonic stem cell (ESC) markers has been previously reported. However, the precise location of these cells has yet to be determined. 3,3-Diaminobenzidine (DAB) immunohistochemical (IHC) staining was performed on 11 WHO grade I MG tissue samples for the expression of the ESC markers OCT4, NANOG, SOX2, KLF4 and c-MYC. Immunofluorescence (IF) IHC staining was performed to investigate the localization of each of these ESC markers. NanoString and colorimetric hybridization (CISH) mRNA expression analyses were performed on six snap-frozen MG tissue samples to confirm transcriptional activation of these proteins, respectively. DAB IHC staining demonstrated expression of OCT4, NANOG, SOX2, KLF4, and c-MYC within all 11 MG tissue samples. IF IHC staining demonstrated the expression of the ESC markers OCT4, NANOG, SOX2, KLF4, and c-MYC on both the endothelial and pericyte layers of the microvessels. NanoString and CISH mRNA analyses confirmed transcription activation of these ESC markers. This novel finding of the expression of all aforementioned ESC markers in WHO grade I MG infers the presence of a putative stem cells population which may give rise to MG.

Background: Esophageal cancer (ESC) is an aggressive disease which often presents at an advanced stage. Despite trimodal therapy, 40-50% patients can develop metastatic disease by 18 months. Identification of patients at risk for metastatic spread is challenging with need for improved prognostication.

The nervous system's regenerative potential has sparked interest in exploring novel approaches to generate Schwann cell-like cells (SC-LCs) from chicken blastoderm (B)-derived embryonic stem cells (B-ESCs). This study investigates the hypothesis that specific growth factors, when used during ex-ovo culture, can induce the differentiation of chicken B-ESCs into cells resembling Schwann cells (SCs). Blastodermal cells (BCs) were isolated from in vivo-fertilized eggs at stage X followed by 14-d proliferative culture (PRC) of B-ESCs and subsequent 14-d glial/neurolemmogenic differentiation culture (DFC).

Endometrial collagen I undergoes dynamic degradation and remodelling in response to endometrial stromal cell (ESC) decidualization and embryo implantation. However, excessive collagen I deposition in the endometrium during the implantation window may impair decidualization, causing embryo implantation failure in patients with endometriosis (EMS). We found that endometrial collagen I expression during the mid-secretory phase was increased in the EMS group of patients.

This study aimed to investigate whether elevated carbamylated albumin (C-Alb), as a surrogate marker for carbamylation burden, is associated with mortality and arterial stiffness/atherosclerotic burden in patients with no or mild CKD, using pulse pressure (PP) as a marker for arterial stiffness.
Methods: We measured C-Alb in 3,193 participants of the Ludwigshafen Risk and Cardiovascular Health study who had been referred for coronary angiography and followed up for 10 years.
