Potato is considered the fourth most important food crop in the world, and the most important non-cereal crop. Potato is transformed using Agrobacterium tumefaciens with relative ease. Several improvements have been made in the last 20 years with respect to tissue culture, transformation, and regeneration of potato. This chapter describes a reliable and efficient potato transformation system using internodal explants. Plasmid preparation, Agrobacterium transformation, potato transformation, regeneration, and recovery are described in detail, as well as molecular characterization of resulting putative transgenic plants.

Rapeseed ( L.) is known for its high-quality seed oil and protein content. However, its use in animal feed is restricted due to antinutritional factors present in the seedcake, with sinapine being one of the main compounds that reduces palatability.

Purpose: Treatment of severe burn wound injury remains a significant clinical challenge as serious infections/complex repair process and irregulating inflammation response. Human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs) have a multidirectional differentiation potential and could repair multiple injuries under appropriate conditions. Poly(L-lysine)-graft-4-hydroxyphenylacetic acid (PLL-g-HPA) hydrogel is an enzyme-promoted biodegradable in hydrogel with good water absorption, biocompatibility and anti-bacterial properties.

In this study, we prepared a porous scaffold made of polycaprolactone (PCL) and carbon quantum dots (CQDs), Fe, and Chitosan (Cs) as the scaffold core to cover the skin. Then evaluated antibacterial, biocompatibility, and wound healing properties as well as the expression of genes effective in wound healing.

The Schwartz's reagent Cp2Zr(H)Cl is a well known stoichiometric reagent for the reduction of unsaturated organic molecules but it has rarely been used in catalytic transformations. Herein, we describe the reduction of a variety of organic carbonates using the catalyst Cp2Zr(H)Cl in combination with Me(MeO)2SiH (DMMS) as reductant. This method was further applied to the reductive depolymerization of some polycarbonate materials and yielded silylated alcohols and diols in mild conditions.

Genetic transformation is a powerful tool in plant biotechnology. However, its application is limited to species that are well-studied and easy to transform. There is a critical need to establish transformation protocols for non-model species.
