Cardiomyopathies (CMPs) are a heterogeneous group of heart muscle diseases with several different phenotypes defined as myocardial disorders in which the heart muscle is structurally and functionally abnormal in the absence of coronary artery disease, hypertension, valvular heart disease and congenital heart disease sufficient to explain the observed myocardial abnormality. CMPs can be classified into one of the following, i.e. hypertrophic CMP (HCM), dilated CMP (DCM), arrhythmogenic right ventricular CMP (ARVC), restrictive CMP (RCM), and unclassified CMPs. Although an increasing number of CMPs are now recognized to have a genetic basis, single mutations are associated with phenotypic variability and may cause not only a specific CMP, but also several different CMPs. Recently, it has become evident that, along with environmental interactions, age and sex may affect the penetrance of disease genes thus determining the phenotypic expression of CMPs. Noteworthy, an increasing body of data indicates that sex plays an important role in various forms of CMPs. The mode of inheritance may affect the sex-related occurrence of CMPs. Also, sex is a relevant determinant of the clinical manifestation of CMPs, and sex-related characteristics can be found in all forms. Sex-specific aspects of clinical disease expression as well as potential modes of inheritance should be therefore taken into proper consideration in order to improve the diagnostic work-up and treatment strategy of CMPs in both sexes.

Near-infrared (NIR) controlled drug delivery systems have drawn a lot of attention throughout the past few decades due to the deep penetration depth and comparatively minor side effects of the stimulus. In this study, we introduce an innovative approach for gastric cancer treatment by combining photothermal infrared-sensitive gold nanorods (AuNRs) with a conjugated microporous polymer (CMP) to create a drug delivery system tailored for transporting the cytostatic drug 5-fluorouracil (5-FU). CMPs are fully conjugated networks with high internal surface areas that can be precisely tailored to the adsorption and transport of active compounds through the right choice of chemical functionalities.

This study comprehensively explores the relationship between the structure of carboxymethyl-pachymaran (CMP) and its diverse biological activities, including immunomodulation, anti-inflammatory effects, tumor cell proliferation inhibition, and antioxidant activity. By adjusting preparation parameters, highly purified CMP samples with varying degrees of substitution (DS) and molecular weights (Mw) were successfully obtained. The results indicate that CMP, composed primarily of β-D-glucan, exhibits different levels of activity depending on its structural characteristics.

Nanoporous organic polymers (NPOPs) have emerged as versatile materials with robust thermal stability, large surface area (up to 2500 m g), and customizable porosity, making them ideal candidates for advanced hydrogen (H) storage applications. This review provides a comprehensive analysis of various NPOPs, including covalent organic frameworks (COFs), hypercrosslinked polymers (HCLPs), conjugated microporous polymers (CMPs), and porous aromatic frameworks (POAFs). Notably, these materials demonstrate superior H storage capacities, achieving up to 10 wt% at cryogenic temperatures, which is essential for applying H as a clean energy carrier.

Collaborative management partnerships (CMPs) between state wildlife authorities and nonprofit conservation organizations to manage protected areas (PAs) have been used increasingly across Sub-Saharan Africa since the 2000s. They aim to attract funding, build capacity, and increase the environmental effectiveness of PAs. Our study documents the rise of CMPs, examines their current extent, and measures their effectiveness in protecting habitats.
