Exploring the barriers to cervical screening and perspectives on new self-sampling methods amongst under-served groups.

BMC Health Serv Res

January 2025

NIHR Greater Manchester Patient Safety Research Collaboration, Centre for Primary Care & Health Services Research, School of Health Sciences, Faculty of Biology, Medicine & Health, The University of Manchester, Greater Manchester, England, UK.

Background: Cervical screening rates have fallen in recent years in the UK, representing a health inequity for some under-served groups. Self-sampling alternatives to cervical screening may be useful where certain barriers prohibit access to routine cervical screening. However, there is limited evidence on whether self-sampling methods address known barriers to cervical screening and subsequently increase uptake amongst under-screened groups.

is a gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic bacterium typically found in the oropharynx and respiratory tract of humans. It is responsible for various infections, including head-and-neck infections, pericarditis, and abscesses of the deltoid, perirenal tissue, brain, and liver. Increasing antibiotic resistance requires urgent identification of novel drug targets to fight this bacterium.

Belumosudil is a first in class ROCK2-inhibitor approved by the FDA for the 3rd line treatment of chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGvHD). In this retrospective real-world analysis, we report safety and efficacy data of belumosudil treatment from 5 German/Swiss transplant centers. A total of 33 adult patients (median age 59 years) with moderate (n = 2) or severe (n = 31) cGvHD were treated on individual request due to lack of EMA approval.

DECT sparse reconstruction based on hybrid spectrum data generative diffusion model.

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Computer Network and Information Integration (Southeast University), Ministry of Education, Nanjing, China; School of Computer Science and Engineering, Southeast University, Nanjing, China.

Purpose: Dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) enables the differentiation of different materials. Additionally, DECT images consist of multiple scans of the same sample, revealing information similarity within the energy domain. To leverage this information similarity and address safety concerns related to excessive radiation exposure in DECT imaging, sparse view DECT imaging is proposed as a solution.

Nanosecond pulsed electric fields (nsPEFs) can induce protein-mediated electroporation (PMEP) in voltage-gated ion channels. However, their effects on the tetrameric structure of voltage-gated potassium (Kv) channels remain unexplored. Our study pioneered the molecular dynamics (MD) investigation of the open-state (O) Kv channel to understand the effects of PMEP under unipolar and bipolar pulses (UP and BP).
