Effective control of bleeding is critical to saving lives whether on the battle field or in civilian life. Microporous starch (MS) is a promising hemostat for its extensive sources, huge surface area and good biocompatibility. However, the hemostatic performance of MS is limited because of its complex preparation process and lack of effective component to activate coagulation factors. Herein, porous starch microspheres modified by calcium (Ca-PSM) with dense shell and honeycomb micro-porous core were prepared by electrostatic spray and supercritical CO for the first time. The topological morphology of Ca-PSM changed with the increase of Tween-80 content within 0.5%. Ca-PSM possessed excellent water absorbability due to high specific surface area, and what's more, it showed good hemostatic performance because of the synergistic effects of physical adsorption and chemical activation mechanisms. The results of thrombelastograph (TEG) showed that the initial clotting time (R) and coagulation time (R + K) of Ca-PSM-1 were shortened by 47.1%, 53.3% than that of control group. The maximum blood clot strength (MA) of Ca-PSM-1 was also significantly raised. Furthermore, it was noteworthy that Ca-PSM could activate clotting cascade and induce erythrocyte adsorption. In summary, Ca-PSM as a hemostat will be a promising and alternative candidate for clinical application.

Globally, traumatic injuries and severe hemorrhagic wounds resulting from natural disasters, wars, traffic accidents, and operation rooms, especially during birth, are among the most difficult humanitarian and economic problems. Thus, the priority in emergency medical treatment is reducing unexpected blood loss, which can significantly influence a patient's rescue and recovery speed. For the immediate cessation of bleeding in severe hemorrhagic wounds and to speed up their healing, environmentally friendly γ-ionizing irradiation technology was used to develop innovative natural-based hydrogels impregnated with traditional medicinal plant extracts (MPE) with proven hemostatic and bactericidal potential as potential dressings for hemostasis, infection control, and wound healing.

Background: Despite accumulating evidence and recommendations for management of colonic diverticular bleeding (CDB), the changes in its clinical management and outcomes remain unknown.
Methods: We performed a retrospective tendency analysis on a biennial basis, a propensity score-matched cohort study between the first and latter half groups, and mediation analyses to compare the diagnostic and treatment methods between January 2010 and December 2019 (CODE BLUE-J Study).
Results: A total of 6575 patients with CDB were included.

Tissue adhesives have attracted significant interest in the field of hemostasis. However, challenges including weak tissue adhesion, inadequate biocompatibility, and instability limit their clinical applications. Here, we have developed a gelatin-DOPA-knob/fibrinogen hydrogel inspired by the fibrin polymerization and mussel adhesion, resulting in a biocompatible bioadhesive with outstanding adhesion performance and great storage stability.

A novel copper and iron doped containing chitosan and heparin sodium carbon dots (CS-Cu,Fe/HS) nanozyme was formulated through a single-step microwave digestion method. CS-Cu,Fe/HS exhibits excellent peroxidase (POD)-like activity and positive charge characteristics, and it can oxidize the negatively charged 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) in the presence of HO to produce a green compound (ox-ABTS). Furthermore, CS-Cu,Fe/HS enhances electron transfer and provides additional active sites through the valence state transformations of Fe/Fe and Cu/Cu.

Ovariohysterectomy (OVH) is a common procedure in bitches, where ovarian suspensory ligament (OSL) rupture facilitates hemostasis but may also have adverse effects. Given the importance of minimizing the surgical stress response, this study aimed to evaluate the impact of OSL rupture in 20 healthy bitches undergoing elective open OVH; a celiotomy via the ventral midline was performed, and hemostasis achieved using bipolar coagulation, either with OSL rupture (OSL-R) or without (OSL-NR). Pain was assessed over 24 h post-surgery using the Visual Analogue Scale and the Short Form of the Glasgow Composite Measure Pain Scale.
